🌄 Valposchiavo: A Valley Defying the Odds! 🌱 The "Poschiavo, where has everyone gone?" reportage by francesca luvini and Louis Trautmann, broadcast on RSI's Falò, tells the story of the #Valposchiavo as a Smart Valley Bio through the lives of those who have chosen it as their home. 🏡 An alpine community that has taken its future into its own hands, building its appeal through grassroots cultural and social initiatives, defying all predictions of depopulation. 💡✨ 🎥 During the reportage, I was interviewed at the documentation center of the Musei Valposchiavo, coinciding with the visit of partners from the Interreg Alpine Space #AlpTextyles project. 🌍 Thanks to international projects like those led by the Polo Poschiavo, this region connects with other communities and centers of knowledge, fostering skills and innovation. 🚀 📺 Don’t miss this inspiring story of a valley that continues to amaze! It’s a wrap on the Waterwise kickoff meeting! The 12 Waterwise partners met in Poschiavo, Switzerland, over the past three days. Discussions were held about the project activities, sharing ideas and good practices coming from 7 different countries. The project partners had the opportunity to better get to know each other and everyone’s role in the project over formal and informal discussions. The whole team was happy to join in a walk close to one of the project pilot sites and learn how to collect samples from water streams for future tests. Everyone was amazed by the beauty of the Cambrena glacier and its lake! Thank you to Université de Neuchâtel and Fondazione Edmund Mach who perfectly organized the kickoff meeting, and to Cassiano Luminati from Polo Poschiavo, Alexis TRUCHET from Interreg Alpine Space Joint Secretariat, Silvia Jost and Alexis Kessler, both from the Swiss Federal Office for Spatial Development (Ufficio federale dello sviluppo territoriale ARE), for participating: their presentations gave plenty of ideas to the Waterwise team for future connections with other projects and institutions. Über 100 Teilnehr:innen aus Fachkreisen folgten den interessanten Referaten in den historischen Räumlichkeiten unseres ehemaligen Kapuzinerklosters und diskutierten engagiert in den Workshops. Herzlichen Dank allen Helfer:innen, Referent:innen und Teilnehmer:innen. Morgen von 10h - 17h geht es weiter mit dem Degustationsmarkt, um 18h folgt die mit Spannung erwartete Prämierung. 📢 Community call for historic photographs of dressing in the Škofja Loka area! 🧵 As part of the #AlpTextyles project, the Arts and Crafts Centre Škofja Loka, together with Razvojna agencija Sora and ZRC SAZU – Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, is building a photo archive to safeguard the textile heritage of the region. 📸 Bring us your family and personal photos of traditional attire in the Škofja Loka area across generations and share the stories behind them! We are looking to collect visual materials to digitize and make them accessible to those interested in clothing heritage and contemporary clothing production. 🌿 Based on sustainable principles that we should revive to ensure the future of the textile industry, time-honored clothesmaking can be a new inspiration for young and contemporary designers. 🌱 The Textile Practices of the Past were Circular 🌿 In the rural past, what we now call #circular practices were already widespread. Take, for example, the #valposchiavo Scrap Blanket (quèrta da retài)—woven on a #hemp or #linen warp and crafted using strips of fabric salvaged from worn-out clothes and linens. This approach not only gave new life to discarded textiles but also turned everyday objects into distinctive pieces of design. On October 17th, during the first-ever UNESCO International Day for #IntangibleCulturalHeritage, I had the privilege of speaking at Les ateliers du #PatrimoineAlimentaireAlpin. The event gave me the opportunity to share reflections on how #crossborder collaboration can contribute to the #safeguarding and valorization of our #culturalheritage. Much of what I’ve learned on this topic comes from my involvement in projects like AlpFoodwayUNESCO Interreg Alpine Space and AlpTextyles - Interreg Alpine Space Project, where we explore innovative ways to safeguard and promote Alpine food and textile traditions. These projects have deepened my understanding of the importance of working beyond national borders to protect the practices and knowledge that hold important answers to today's challenges, such as the transition to the #circulareconomy and adaptation to the #climateemergency. emlyon Lifestyle Research Center
