What happens when you bring together ambitious students with fresh ideas and a panel of seasoned innovation experts? A win-win situation. Because two things happen when Innovation Management students from the Sino-Danish Center (SDC) pitch their semester projects to a jury of experts in the Chinese innovation ecosystem.. 💡 Students’ ideas and perspectives are put to the test based on the jury’s hands-on experience, offering pragmatic feedback. 🚀 Experts in the jury get a front-row seat to the creativity and drive of the next generation of innovators. And the stakes were high – one team walked away with the prize for Best Project and Pitch! A massive thank you to everyone who participated and made this event a success: the students for their hard work and bold ideas, the jury for their insights and encouragement, and, of course, SDC for their commitment to teamwork and innovation. To the winning team: congratulations on your well-deserved recognition! Your project truly stood out, and we can’t wait to see where your journey takes you next. What would you look for in a winning pitch? Share your thoughts in the comments! 2025 is the year of 75 diplomatic relations between China and Denmark. To kick off the year, we were honored to welcome Danish Minister of Higher Education and Science, Ms. Christina Egelund, to China last week, where she engaged in meaningful discussions with Mr. Yin Hejun, Minister of Science and Technology, and Mr. Huai Jinpeng, Minister of Education of China. These meetings culminated in the renewal of two memorandums of understanding (MOU) with the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education, respectively. The renewed MOU’s reflect the growing commitment to advancing sustainability, innovation, and education — areas critical to both nations and in alignment with the current green joint work programme between China and Denmark. With representatives from both academia, industry and government present, the Executive Director of Innovation Centre Denmark Shanghai, Anders Sloth Nielsen, moderated a roundtable in which Danish companies exchanged experiences working with research and development (R&D) in China, fostering valuable feedback and fresh ideas. This roundtable discussion also served as a follow-up to ICDK Shanghai’s R&D ecosystem report, published a few years ago, which explored the dynamics of Sino-Danish research collaboration. The dialogue provided valuable insights into how the innovation landscape has evolved anno 2025, reaffirming the importance of partnerships in addressing shared global challenges. At ICDK Shanghai, we’re proud to play a pivotal role in bridging Danish and Chinese innovation, facilitating collaboration across public authorities, academia, and industry. Minister Egelund’s visit underscores Denmark’s dedication to deepening ties with China, and we look forward to supporting the implementation of these agreements through impactful initiatives and partnerships. Creativity and teamwork in Shanghai! At Innovation Centre Denmark in Shanghai, collaboration is key to creating value for our partners. Together with the Trade Council team, we explored new ways to strengthen our whole-of-approach and leverage each other's strengths through a dynamic half-day workshop. The session combined creative exercises, strategic discussions, and team-building activities—including juggling! It was a fun and inspiring way to spark fresh ideas, build stronger connections, and enhance how we work together. We’re excited about the opportunities this collaboration unlocks and look forward to driving even greater impact together for Danish companies and universities.

INNOVATION MECCA IN THE OUTSKIRTS OF BEIJING A triple helix of industry, academia and government gathered at the Sino-Danish Center (SDC) in Beijing for two days packed full of workshops, roundtables, networking and problem solving; introducing Corporate Innovation Days (CID). Students from the Innovation Management course got the chance to meet and talk with companies whose challenges and opportunities they are actively working with as coursework. And industry had ample opportunity to recruit young talent and form new perspectives on their current activities. We love events like these, where we can connect government, industry and academia in a dynamic environment buzzing with the spirit of innovation. Here, we forge partnerships, boost problem solving and create new value for our partners. This time we brought along Maj Munch Andersen all the way from University of Copenhagen to do a lecture and workshop on Bio-Circular Economy, teaching students and companies alike how the shift to a circular economy changes the competitive landscape. We facilitate partnerships and projects between companies and universities working together with government to innovate in the fields of life science and green transition. Contact us. Let’s collaborate. Nordic discussion at CIIE We had the pleasure of moderating and participating in a Nordic discussion on sustainable innovation and Chinese collaboration in the midst of China’s most important expo, the CIIE. Consul General Mikael H. Winther kicked off the talk, stressing the massive potential for Nordic innovation when collaborating with Chinese partners, whom share our values and ambitions for green transition and life science. Next, Anders Sloth Nielsen took the stage to moderate the discussion between Business Finland, Innovation Norway, Business Sweden, the Icelandic Deputy Head of Mission of Beijing and the Danish Commercial Consul Mads Vesterager Nielsen. Whenever we unite as Nordics, our similarities and common ground are evident as a huge advantage. Knowledge sharing, sustainability and innovation is treasured by all of us, and at the Innovation Center Denmark in Shanghai we are thankful from the synergy we have with our Nordic neighbors and already look forward to our next collaboration.
