🐄 New study highlights the superiority of using whole dried Asparagopsis in reducing the climate impact of cattle farming. A recent study by CH4Global and Dr. Eslam K. Ahmed published in Animal Feed Science and Technology shows that using Asparagopsis and its full spectrum of bioactive compounds as a cattle feed additive is more effective in reducing methane emissions than isolated bromoform, the key active compound in the seaweed. Aside from whether other researchers can corroborate this, this raises important questions: 🧪 Does a 35% increase in methane reduction efficiency justify the potentially greater cost of using whole Asparagopsis over potentially cheaper synthetic alternatives? 🌿 What other benefits does using the whole plant have compared to using a single synthetic compound? #OceansOasis #Methane #SustainableFarming #Cattle #CH4 #Symbrosia

Developing the seaweed industry in Costa Rica to restore oceans and improve resilience of coastal communities
Sobre nosotros
Ocean’s Oasis is a registered NGO that was created to explore the potential for a seaweed industry in Costa Rica and to promote the development of seaweed-related businesses in the country. We are currently conducting an investigation to determine the viability and growth of several native species of seaweed in Jobo, Guanacaste. Our objective is to determine whether the seaweed harvested can then be used to create new businesses, and thus kickstart a seaweed industry.

Biostimulants are gaining traction in the agriculture sector, offering numerous benefits across various crops, including: - Enhanced growth and productivity - Improved nutrient uptake - Reduced environmental impact compared to traditional chemical fertilizers As a sustainable alternative, biostimulants align with environmentally conscious farming practices. At Ocean Oasis, we are exploring the potential and researching the effects of micro and macroalgae on Costa Rica’s major crops—banana, pineapple, and sugarcane—to promote more sustainable agriculture. #OceansOasis #Biostimulants #SustainableAgriculture

🦸 Is seaweed a superhero when it comes to combatting climate change? Read the World Wildlife Fund's review of seaweed's seven superpowers: 1. Storing carbon 2. Low-carbon food source 3. Provide supplemental income to coastal communities 4. Buffer against erosion 5. Alternative to plastic 6. Combat ocean acidification 7. Use a carbon reducing animal feed #OceansOasis #WWF #Seaweed #ClimateChange #LowCarbon #CarbonReduction #PlasticAlternatives #Deacidification

As we work to develop the seaweed industry in Central America, it is important to study Asia's seaweed industry. 🇰🇷 For example, there is much to be learnt from how Korea has successfully boosted industry growth for the past 70 years. With research focused on strain selection and selective breeding, Korea has developed climate resilient species that are able to survive despite warming and polluted oceans. 🌊🌿 Happy Earth Day 🌿🌊 Our commitment to ocean conservation means we need to confront the drastic effects of plastic pollution. 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in the ocean each year, wreaking havoc on our essential marine ecosystems. The UN Global Plastic Treaty will be critical in cutting global plastic production and protecting our environments from further damage. Join us, alongside EARTHDAY.ORG in demanding a 60% reduction of plastics by 2040 with the goal of building a plastic-free future: https://bit.ly/3WcQ0am #EarthDay #PlanetVsPlastics #PlasticDetox #GlobalPlasticTreaty

🇨🇷 Costa Rica will be co-hosting the 2025 UN Ocean Conference with France. Costa Rica has historically been a global leader in landscape scale regeneration on land, and now hopefully it can do the same in the sea! We look forward to learning more about how this preparatory high-level discussion being hosted in Costa Rica this June intends to support Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. #OceansOasis #CostaRica #OceanDecade

This International Women's Day we are thrilled to spotlight the Belize Women's Seaweed Farmers Association, highlighting seaweed farming's potential of fostering gender equality in coastal communities in a neighboring country. Founded with the goal of inclusivity, this impressive organization has empowered women to contribute to Placencia's traditionally male-dominated seaweed industry. Our conversations about women's contributions to the sustainable aquaculture industry have been both educational and inspiring for our team as we develop seaweed farming initiatives in Costa Rica. #IWD #InternationalWomensDay #GenderEquality #IWD2024 #OceansOasis
