I am in New York attending the #FFD4 second preparatory committee meeting 🔍A lot of critical conversations to be held on #debt, #tax, international development cooperation, financial architecture reform, #trade and more! 📍FFD is a unique opportunity to addres the systemic transformations urgently needed for the global economic system and to make it more equitable, fair and democratic 👊🏻Happy to support the amazing work civil society has been building for many years and ensure #justice remains the compass of the future outcome paper Read the key demands of the CSO FFD mechanism here : https://lnkd.in/ezjbgPhJ ☕️Let me know if you are around

While growing in visibility and depth in national and international conversations and despite a packed Ministerial Dialogue on Just Transition in COP29, the Just Transition Work Programme became one of the COP29 casualties, with no agreement reached on future work. A step backwards, no doubts, but not the end of the story. I wanted to share a few thoughts on what needs to happen to deliver real progress by COP30. #justtransition community, let me know your ideas...

“This has been the most horrendous climate negotiations in years due to the bad faith of developed countries. This was meant to be the finance COP, but the Global North turned up with a plan to betray the Global South. In the end, we saw the same story play out, with developing countries being left little choice but to accept a bad deal. As civil society we called on developing countries to reject a bad deal, a deal that would betray the people in the Global South. We are not defeated; we will fight back home, we will be out in numbers and louder than ever. The fight is far from over" Tasneem Essop, Executive Director of Climate Action Network. https://lnkd.in/giGq8-jq

"The stage is set for a bitter row on Saturday over how much money poor countries should receive from the governments of the rich world, which have offered $250bn a year by 2035 to help the poor shift to a low-carbon economy and adapt to the impacts of extreme weather." #COP29 #ClimateFinance
