Renewable Energy Tracker 2024 The "Renewable Energy Tracker 2024," prepared by Climate Action Network International, evaluates global progress toward achieving 100% #renewableenergysystems through an equity-driven lens. This report underscores the critical intersection of environmental #sustainability and social justice, emphasizing how equitable transitions are essential to combating the #climatecrisis effectively. By analyzing #policies, #deploymentrates, and #financialinvestments in #renewableenergy across diverse geographies, it highlights both the strides made and the persistent disparities that hinder universal progress. Central to the findings is the uneven pace of renewable energy adoption. While some nations demonstrate #leadership through ambitious targets and innovative policies, others face systemic barriers, including limited #financialresources, technological gaps, and sociopolitical challenges. This divergence underscores the need for global cooperation to address these disparities and enable a fair transition that benefits all communities. The report further reveals the disproportionate impact of energy poverty and lack of access to #cleanenergyinfrastructure on marginalized populations, calling for urgent measures to bridge these inequities. Financing renewable energy transitions emerges as a pivotal issue, with the report advocating for greater investment in underserved regions and the adoption of mechanisms that prioritize social inclusion. Case studies illustrate successful models of community-led renewable energy projects, offering valuable lessons for scalability and replication. Moreover, it highlights the necessity of integrating Indigenous knowledge and local expertise to design sustainable and culturally appropriate energy systems. A collective effort—spanning governments, the private sector, and civil society—must focus on balancing ambition with fairness, fostering partnerships that drive innovation while prioritizing those most affected by climate inaction. In sum, the path to a sustainable and equitable #energyfuture lies in embracing the diversity of solutions and #stakeholders, reinforcing the principle that climate action is inseparable from social equity. The "Renewable Energy Tracker 2024" makes a compelling case for an equitable shift to renewable energy, framing it as both a moral imperative and a practical necessity to meet global climate goals. The report’s analysis demonstrates that achieving 100% renewable energy is within reach, but only if the transition is underpinned by justice and inclusivity. Addressing the structural barriers that limit access to resources and technology in vulnerable regions is crucial to ensuring no community is left behind.

While growing in visibility and depth in national and international conversations and despite a packed Ministerial Dialogue on Just Transition in COP29, the Just Transition Work Programme became one of the COP29 casualties, with no agreement reached on future work. A step backwards, no doubts, but not the end of the story. I wanted to share a few thoughts on what needs to happen to deliver real progress by COP30. #justtransition community, let me know your ideas...

This time, the questions I usually get about why attending COPs or if those should be changed, are being asked by those that have shaped the process. But, do we share an understanding of what is the problem?

“This has been the most horrendous climate negotiations in years due to the bad faith of developed countries. This was meant to be the finance COP, but the Global North turned up with a plan to betray the Global South. In the end, we saw the same story play out, with developing countries being left little choice but to accept a bad deal. As civil society we called on developing countries to reject a bad deal, a deal that would betray the people in the Global South. We are not defeated; we will fight back home, we will be out in numbers and louder than ever. The fight is far from over" Tasneem Essop, Executive Director of Climate Action Network. https://lnkd.in/giGq8-jq
