Powder-based additive manufacturing with polymers - this topic was addressed in a multifaceted certificate course last week. The two seminar days were part of the certificate course “Additive Manufacturing” offered by IHK-Akademie Mittelfranken. In cooperation with AMbitious powered by toolcraft, this course provided the basics of additive manufacturing with both metals and polymers. In a balanced combination of theoretical and practical modules, we presented the process fundamentals of the Selective Laser Sintering and relevant properties of polymers. We worked together on methods for the material characterization, the slicing process and build job preparation, post-processing steps in SLS and possibilities for the qualification of the manufactured samples. This gave the participants a comprehensive insight into the SLS processes and key properties. We congratulate the participants to their certificates and look back on two exciting days with many fruitful discussions. #PolymerTechnology #AdditiveManufacturing #IHK #Seminar #Certificate

We were at the #Formnext in Frankfurt! As part of the Collaborative Research Center 814 “Additive Manufacturing”, the LKT was recently exhibiting at the Formnext fair in Frankfurt and presented current research results. In addition, we were able to network with many new contacts and gain valuable insights from lively discussions. LKT is involved in SFB 814 with two sub-projects in the transfer phase. In sub-project T4, Simon Cholewa works with Basell as application partner on the targeted adjustment of the morphology in polypropylene components. Paul Roumeliotis develops new material systems for flame retardant components in the selective laser sintering in T6, collaborating with Clariant, EOS und PROTIQ - A Phoenix Contact Company. We thank Bayern Innovativ GmbH for the organization and are looking forward to the upcoming fairs. #PolymerTechnology #Formnext #Research #AdditiveManufacturing #Collaboration

On 13 and 14 November, the LKT organized a seminar on the preparation and microscopy of polymers. The focus of the seminar was on teaching practical skills for the optimal implementation of the examination methods presented and the exchange of experience. In addition to introductory lectures on topics such as the basics and importance of light microscopy in plastics testing, practical work was carried out in small groups on sample preparation and microscopes. We would like to thank all participants for their interest. Our next seminar “Failure Analysis of Polymer Parts“ will take place in February 2025, to which we cordially invite you. Time for research! On Friday, November 15th the RTG 2950 SyMoCADS met at LKT for the first SyMoCADS seminar. Here, young researchers are tackling simulative and experimental challenges in molecular communication. The latest progress in the sub-projects and new ideas which sparked some fruitful discussion were presented. LKT is involved in SyMoCADS with the development of a production method for complex biomimetic channel structures replicating the blood vessel System in Tumors. These will be used for the experimental investigation of magnetic drug targeting in cancer therapy. #PolymerTechnology #SyMoCADS #Research #AdditiveManufacturing #Seminar

“From filament to your own design object” – LKT hosted a workshop in the event “Girls and Technology Internship” at FAU. We introduced the girls to the fundamentals of polymers, focusing on the additive manufacturing. In the practical part, the pupils created their own object with modelling clay, which was digitized and printed using fused filament fabrication. We look back on a successful internship and numerous individual design objects! #PolymerTechnology #MINT #AdditiveManufacturing
