The year is coming to an end 🚀 and Christmas 🎄 is just around the corner. Time for a summary? 🤔 In preparation for this post, we took a look at our festive greeting message from last year. In the summary, it was characterized by increased tensions in the world and growing challenges - but also by the outlook that things could only get better... was that the case? You immediately want to shout “no”. Because the war in Ukraine continues unabated and the conflagration in the Middle East has escalated. Tensions are rising in many other places in the world, for example in Korea or China/Taiwan. Politically conservative tendencies are on the rise - in Europe and especially in the USA, as the election results in November clearly showed. And finally, economic pressure is also increasing noticeably for everyone, even in the rich industrialized countries. Not to mention the widening gap between rich and poor. And again, more natural disasters than ever before and it was the warmest year since weather records began (oh, wonder!). We are at a turning point in nearly every dimension of our life. Besides the global security situation, economy & politics - what does this mean for the quest to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals? Nothing good, unfortunately. The destabilization distracts from the long-term significant challenges in the ecological & social context. Short-sightedness is "in". More money is being channeled into weapons instead of education. More effort is spent on economic protectionism than on promoting cooperation at a global level. All those who are committed to ecological or social improvements have been facing a stiff breeze since this year at the latest - this will certainly not be a tailwind in 2025. Probably quite the opposite. We would like to end again with the formula "things can only get better", but in view of the course that has been set for the coming year, we lack this confidence. We need to focus on the things that are now more important: Cohesion, resilience & daring. Because even if the presumed dry spell for eco/social ideas should now come, one thing is equally clear: the need to tackle the greatest challenges of our time is not diminishing but rather becoming greater and more urgent. It is therefore up to us to continue this mission, not to despair and to act together. These are the strengths of the people who shape the "impact economy" and we are therefore still positive that we can continue to make the world a better place, bit by bit. Heute ist der letzte Tag der COP16 Colombia und uns allen wird hoffentlich immer deutlicher bewusst, dass Erhaltung und Förderung von Natur und Biodiversität nicht nur auf alle #SGDs einzahlt und den Klimawandel bekämpft sondern wesentlich auch fürs unser wirtschaften auf diesem Planeten sind. Wenn mind. 50% des globalen GDPs von Natur abhängen, muss diese auch entsprechend betrachtet werden. Biodiversitäts und Nature Conservation Credits sind zwar keine Kredite, wie im WirtschaftsWoche Artikel bezeichnet, können aber als verbrieftes, auch einfach übertragbares (Naturschutz-) Produkt mit dazu beitragen deutlich mehr Mittel in das Thema zu allokieren und Risiken auszusteuern.
