🎄 For the last post of the season, the SEED MICAT team would like to wish all of you a wonderful Christmas season and ending of 2024, and a great start for 2025. 🎄 In order to do so, we have thought of a little poem which explains (in terms of multiple impacts, of course) what would happen if the Grinch had achieved his mission and managed to turn off all the Christmas lights in Europe. Maybe it would not be so bad, after all?? 😊 Have a wonderful Christmas and happy new year. The SEED MICAT team ✨✨✨ In a universe parallel to ours, With the same bees and flowers, The same people in each town, Virtually no difference but one, No matter where in Europe you would visit, Nowhere to see was Christmas spirit. Not a soul sang them jingle bells, The air void of any magical spells, Not a single Christmas light, Striving to illuminate the night. (270 ktoe electricity savings) Now that might sound quite sad, To any simpleton and fool, That still has not seen and read, The results from the MICATool. In those nights of usualness, Void of any festive happiness, More than a dozen Petajoules, (12.5 PJ of coal, gas, and oil avoided) Of "unchristmassy" fossil fuels, Never left for Western Europe, For Russia quite the wallop. Santa was just a man with a beard, Everyone assumed was a bit weird, Working day shifts at Burger King’s, No presents, only burger wrappings. Yet, good news about his mission, His changed job didn’t just coincide, With more than a million, Avoided tons of carbon dioxide. (1.05 MtCO2) There was no Christmas flair, In the winterly atmosphere, But also to be more than fair, Way fewer pollutants in the air, (0.6t SO2, 0.9t NOX, 0.05t PM2.5) Going easy on everyone breaths, Avoiding 17 premature deaths. (As well as 2500 avoided lost working days) With this little Christmas story, Uplifting and without worry, We wish you a very happy festivity, That those 17 aren’t in your family! ✨✨✨ * Assumptions underlying our analysis, specifically related to electricity savings: our estimates indicate that turning off all Christmas lights in the EU could lead to potential savings of 202 kilotons of oil equivalent (ktoe) in the residential sector and 67 ktoe in the tertiary sector. These figures correspond to approximately 3.5 billion kWh of electricity consumption in the U.S., adjusted for population and accounting for a 1.5 multiplier (reflecting the heightened enthusiasm for holiday lighting of the "Christmassiness" in the average US American household). #MICATCommunity #MICATool #ChristmasLights #EnergySaving #EnergyEfficiency

🌍 Energy efficiency and policy innovation go hand in hand! We’re excited to share that our sister project- ENSMOV Plus, is hosting a European workshop on Energy Savings Potentials for Policymaking on 17th December at 13:00 CET. 📅 This event aligns closely with the mission of our #SEEDMICAT project, which emphasises the importance of integrating Multiple Impacts (MI) into energy efficiency policymaking. 🔗 How do ENSMOV+ and SEED MICAT connect? ENSMOV+ focuses on enhancing the implementation of energy efficiency policies, including the Energy Efficiency Directive (#EED), by providing tools and methodologies that support policymakers. SEED MICAT builds on this foundation by exploring how Multiple Impacts—such as economic, environmental, and social benefits—can guide decision-making in line with the Energy Efficiency First (EE1) principle. ✅ Together, these projects highlight the importance of evidence-based approaches to energy efficiency. While ENSMOV+ examines energy savings potentials, SEED MICAT extends the lens to include renewable energy sources and the broader implications of energy pathways toward climate neutrality. 💡 Interested in #EnergyEfficiency and its transformative role in shaping #policy? From January to March 2025, the #NECPlatform project will be offering an exclusive Peer Learning Programme (PLP) to organisations across the EU who are eager to implement the innovative Multi-Level Climate & Energy Dialogue (CED) model. If you're passionate about shaping effective climate and energy policies, this is the opportunity you've been waiting for! 🔍 What’s the PLP about? Over the course of 3 months, participating organisations will receive hands-on training from our experienced NECPlatform partners across 6 EU Member States (Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Italy, Portugal, and Romania). This interactive journey combines online sessions and an in-person workshop in Brussels, giving you practical insights and real-world examples to effectively lead national CEDs in your country. 🌟 Why Join? Climate and energy dialogues require nuanced strategies tailored to each country's context. Our PLP offers a collaborative environment where you’ll explore challenges, strategies, and best practices alongside experienced peers. You’ll come away better equipped to design, implement, and monitor climate and energy policies that are ambitious, fair, and impactful. 💡 Who Should Apply? The PLP is designed for Ministries, National Energy and Climate Agencies, and other organisations that play a key role in influencing national energy and climate plans, including networks of local authorities, energy agencies, NGOs, think tanks, etc. 🗓️ Submit your expression of interest by November 29, 2024 👉 Apply Now: https://lnkd.in/epzKtriM #Energy #ClimateAction #EnergyTransition #ClimateChange #EUClimate #MultiLevelGovernance #PolicyInnovation #CapacityBuilding #EnergEfficiency #EnergyPolicy #ClimatePolicy
Our #NECPlatform peer learning programme application month starts now! Multilevel governance processes, such as the Climate and Energy Dialogues, are mandated by Article 11 of the European Regulation on the Governance of the Energy Union and Climate Action (1999/2018). They are a crucial governance tool facilitating the implementation of the energy transition at EU and Member States' levels, yet, not all countries have been able to dedicate the necessary space and effort to organise them. The LIFE-funded NECPlatform project invites you to participate in a peer-learning programme, developed to transfer the knowledge acquired during the first 2 years of the project on how to best set up multi-level and multi-stakeholders dialogues. The PLP participants will hear from real examples and benefit from a collaborative space where they can discuss their doubts and challenges. Experienced peers share insights based on their own experiences, facilitating mutual learning. By the end of the PLP, participants will have a better understanding of the intricate dynamics and strategies that can be employed to organise effective Climate Energy Dialogues. Equipped with practical knowledge and peer insights, they will be more prepared to approach CEDs with greater confidence and adaptability. This opportunity is specifically intended for governments of (and other organisations with national relevance based in) the European Member States not part of the NECPlatform project (the participating countries are Bulgaria, France, Croatia, Italy, Portugal and Romania). The target participants are technical personnel of the ministries and/or National Energy and Climate Agencies and/or organisations that can support and influence the drafting / update / monitoring of the NECP and/or other national energy and climate plans and processes in their countries, such as networks of local authorities, energy agencies, NGOs, think tanks, etc. https://lnkd.in/e-9C6b_p LIFE Programme CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency
