Our colleague Ulla Vogel from the Det Nationale Forskningscenter for Arbejdsmiljø (NFA/NRCWE) delivered an impactful keynote at the Total-Nanosafe II #Conference in Braga, Portugal, last week. She highlighted the serious health risks of inhaling particles and dust, including fibrosis, cancer, and cardiovascular disease, emphasizing that smaller particles are particularly harmful (compared with larger particles with the same chemical composition). An important reminder of the need for vigilance in workplace air quality and safety. Special thanks to Ernesto Alfaro-Moreno and INL - International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory for the invitation, and congratulations on the well organised conferece! #4asaferworld #nanosafety #workplacehealth #airquality #occupationalsafety

Advanced High Aspect Ratio and Multicomponent materials. #H2020 funded project under GA no. 953183 🇪🇺
Info
Next generation nanomaterials are a challenge for the established risk assessment and management paradigm. The regulatory frameworks have just been modified to address risk assessment of primary nanomaterials with simple coatings and are currently in the first phase of implementing methods and tools adequate for simple nanomaterials. Next generation nanomaterials and products thereof, are multiconstuent materials which exhibit much more complex behaviour, potentially including mixture toxicology. The morphologies and stoichiometry of next generation advanced nanomaterials are not harmless, as designs including high aspect ratio shapes and heavy metal content are abundant. By elucidating the role of nanostructures, their transformation and initiation of adverse outcome pathways, HARMLESS will provide novel tools, guidance and decision support for balancing functionality versus risk to ensure that the next generation nanomaterials will be harmless. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under Grant Agreement No. 953183. Posts and shares reflect only the views of the project owner.

Thank Ulla Vogel (from Det Nationale Forskningscenter for Arbejdsmiljø (NFA/NRCWE)) for representing HARMLESS in the 2nd edition of Total-Nanosafe!!
PhD, ERT Head of Nanosafety at INL - International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory - Looking for the next best thing to assess nanosafety!
The Total-Nanosafe II Conference was an incredible opportunity to bring together some of the brightest minds in the field of nanosafety and related disciplines. Leading this initiative was a privilege, and I must say, the experience was even more engaging, enjoyable, and challenging than I had anticipated. A heartfelt thank you to all the participants, speakers, and members of the Sinfonia Project Advisory Board. Paraphrasing Eva Valsami-Jones, leading such an effort is easy when all the participants are so good. During the meeting in Helsinki, much attention was on New Approach Methodologies (#NAMs) and the REACH revisions - both crucial for HARMLESS. These innovations not only align with evolving EU standards but also bring us closer to a future of safe, effective, and ethical testing. Thank you Matiss Reinfelds (BNN - BioNanoNet) for representing the project in the NGO-ECHA Dialogue! Looking forward to further collaboration to achieve the goals of the EU's chemical strategy for sustainability! #AlternativesToAnimalTesting #ECHA #NGO #collaboration
✨Thank you!✨Our sincere thanks to all participants of the NGO-ECHA Dialogue, both in Helsinki and online. With representatives from 12 organisations, we discussed future priorities and explored opportunities for collaboration. Highlights of the day included discussions on ECHA’s and NGOs' future priorities, biocides, a Q&A session with Roberto Scazzola, Chair of the Risk Assessment Committee, and a follow-up on NGO engagement in ECHA’s working and expert groups. These dialogues are essential in bringing ECHA and stakeholders together, promoting knowledge sharing, and gathering feedback. We greatly value your contributions and look forward to ongoing collaboration as we work towards our shared goals - a safer and more sustainable future. #ECHA #NGO #Collaboration #Partnerships #ChemicalsSafetyEU

Just a month ago, the whole @HARMLESS consortium had the pleasure to attend the 11th International Conference on NanoToxicology – #NANOTOX2024, held in the stunning city of Venice! 🏛️✨ It was a great success, organised jointly by the three NMBP-16 projects DIAGONAL, HARMLESS and h2020 SUNSHINE, as their final dissemination activity! Catch the vibe of the event in the video below and dive into the details of HARMLESS contribution by reading the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gSKxwwmc #Nanotechnology #NanoToxicology #SSbD #Research #Sustainability #Innovation
Catch a glimpse of #NanoTox2024 in Venice with our video! The 11th International Conference on NanoToxicology took place September 23-25, 2024, in the historic center of #Venice at Centro Culturale Don Orione Artigianelli. The scientific conference, organised jointly by the three NMBP-16 EU funded projects DIAGONAL, HARMLESS and h2020 SUNSHINE attracted around 250 participants from research and academic institutions, as well as from industry, governmental agencies, and experts from Europe, the United States, Africa and Asia. The conference provided a valuable platform for convening leading experts focused on the challenges related to safe and sustainable multicomponent nanomaterials (MCNM) by developing novel tools for evaluating human and environmental hazards, alongside strategies for #nanomaterial characterization, classification, grouping, and read-across for risk analysis and #sustainability assessment. We are proud of our colleagues Susanne Resch and Beatriz Alfaro Serrano for co-organizing the conference alongside their great time!
