Christian Stein co-founded Threedy GmbH - instant3Dhub, an industrial 3D infrastructure company that's raised $11.5M in funding. Their story began in an unexpected place: a German research institute where Christian was working on computer graphics and software engineering. What started as a research project took an interesting turn when they landed their first paying customer - 4 years before the company even existed. That early success triggered a realization: they had stumbled onto something valuable. The spin-out wasn't simple: → Transferred an entire department of 20 people → Had to navigate complex legal restrictions → Needed to maintain existing customer relationships Their initial GTM approach revealed a critical insight: → Early success came from working with innovators at large automotive companies → But replicating that success proved harder than expected → They were overwhelming prospects with technical complexity The pivot came when they realized their mistake: → Stripped down the complex technical story → Focused on specific use cases → Empowered sales teams with clear, targeted messaging They faced another challenge during Series A: → Delayed fundraising by 6 months during peak metaverse hype → Market conditions shifted dramatically → Had to recalibrate their entire approach Today, Threedy is expanding beyond their German automotive roots: → Targeting new verticals → Entering US and India markets → Building a partner network for 3D and mixed reality applications Their vision: making 3D data as accessible and ubiquitous as the internet, powering the next generation of industrial applications. The lesson? Even the most sophisticated technology needs simple, focused go-to-market execution.
