🚀 Big things are happening in Ghana! 1 million girls across 3,200 schools will soon receive impactful menstrual hygiene management (MHM) education through the GAMA Sanitation and Water Project, supported by the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources and the World Bank. This marks an important step forward for Ghana, where currently 9 out of 10 girls miss school during their period. (Ghana Menstrual Health Snapshot, Nov 17, 2023) This large-scale rollout of the MHM Education Guide demonstrates how well it can be used to reach vast numbers of girls, especially in settings where accessibility is key. The Guide is easy to use, affordable, and already tailored to four world regions, among them the Sub-Saharan African context—making it the ideal tool for this powerful initiative. It’s a prime example of the scalability of the MHM Education Guide, designed to fit seamlessly into large programs and impact the lives of millions. We’re incredibly proud to be part of this initiative, reaching every single girl indirectly through Ama's World. #PeriodFriendlyWorld #MenstrualHealth #MenstrualHygiene #MHM #PeriodEducationForAll #ScalingMHM The World Bank GAMA SWP

🌟Exciting news! We are thrilled that World Vision has chosen our MHM Education Guide as part of their group-based education programs on menstrual hygiene management (MHM)!🩸 The partnership between WASH United Berlin (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) and World Vision kicked off in September with two orientation webinars, inviting World Vision’s country teams from Africa, Asia, and MENA to learn more about the MHM Education Guide. The response was fantastic, with nearly 80 participants attending! 🙌 🌍 Following the webinars, 5 country offices— World Vision Ethiopia, World Vision Chad, World Vision Mali, World Vision Bangladesh, and World Vision Papua New Guinea —have decided to use the MHM Education Guide with the World Vision logo on the cover. Jointly, they are planning on educating and empowering almost 100.000 girls with essential menstrual health and hygiene education. Way to go! 🤩 Huge thanks to Lindsay Lange and Kristie Urich, for making this possible! We’re looking forward to the positive impact this collaboration will bring. This is what collective impact can look like - anyone else keen on joining the journey? #MHMEducation #PeriodFriendlyWorld Aya Senbel Thorsten Kiefer Sarah Bagel Ina Jurga Jamie Grenda Sophia Bäurle Emily Cruz, MSPH Linda Hell

Meet the funders leading the way on menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) In our event "Together for a period friendly world", trailblazing funders shared why and how they invest in MHH. A big round of applause to USAID, who have taken several steps to make their interventions more comprehensive, more coordinated and more intentional. USAID not only has an internal MHH action plan, but also tags funding for MHH internally. Between 2021 and 2023, funding for MHH has increased from USD 4 million to USD 10 million per year. USAID is also starting to track their impact on MHH. In 2023 alone, their humanitarian response efforts reached almost 30 million people with WASH relief supplies, including MHH materials. Jamille Bigio Lisa Schechtman For The World Bank, addressing poor MHH is a key measure to promote, health, education, address inequalities and ultimately achieve sustainable economic development. It's a growing issue within the World Bank's financing and advocacy. The World Bank currently has 30 projects with partner governments that include menstrual health and hygiene components. Since 2019, half of all new WASH projects have MHH components. Thank you for your leadership, Saroj Kumar Jha, Hana Brixi, Kamila Galeza, Gaia von Hatzfeldt, Sarah Farhat Procter & Gamble are committed to breaking down the barriers women and girls around the world face related to periods and puberty. Puberty is a tumultuous time for most girls and research shows that the first period is the moment when girls' confidence is at its lowest. Hence supporting girls at the beginning of puberty is a priority. P&G's key programs focus on menstruation education and access to period products. Through these initiatives, they're reaching millions and millions of girls, as well as parents, caregivers, and their teachers. P&G has donated hundreds of millions of products through partners across all 50 states in the US. P&G has been a strong supported of MH Day from the very beginning and supports many other trailblazing organisations. 🙏 🙏 🙏 Allison Tummon Kamphuis Ana Carolina Ruiz Astorga The Obama Foundation's Girls' Opportunity Alliance aims to make sure that every girl around the world has access to the opportunities to fulfill her potential. When girls are not getting educated, our entire world is missing out on their talent. That's why the Obama Foundation focuses on supporting grassroots organizations around the world - from Ethiopia to Cambodia, Vietnam and Guatemala - to break down the barriers that keep girls out of school. This includes projects addressing MHH. 💪 💪 Tsehaitu "Tubi" Retta Dhwani Kharel It's time for more funders to follow the above examples and raise their ambitions and funding for MHH! #periodfriendlyworld

A #PeriodFriendlyWorld is possible! Menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) affects more than just the female body–it impacts progress in girls’ education, women’s and girls’ health, women’s economic empowerment and with that overall economic development. The good thing is: enabling good menstrual health and hygiene is no rocket science. Good MHH has four components: education about menstruation, access to quality menstrual products, a supportive environment without taboos and stigma, and period-friendly infrastructure. And the knowledge and tested solutions to address all of these issues already exist. With them, we can create a #PeriodFriendlyWorld within our generation. Together with our friends from Girl Up, United Nations Foundation, Procter & Gamble, Changing Our World, UNICEF, The Sanitation and Hygiene Fund (SHF), Days for Girls International, Population Services International/Stichting PSI Europe, Global Citizen, The Case for Her, and the Girls Opportunity Alliance / Obama Foundation, we're going to put a big spotlight on MHH during the upcoming UN General Assembly week in New York City. Stay tuned - exciting updates to follow! #MenstrualHealth #MenstrualHygiene #MHDay

Menstrual hygiene management in humanitarian crises: what have we learned and how far have we come? Join the webinar by Elrha on October 1st, where experts will reflect on their field experiences delivering Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in various humanitarian settings. A good MHM education comes with enormous benefits. Feeling "better and relaxed" is one of them. The MHM Education Guide empowers them to manage menstruation with confidence. It also encourages them to engage in the topic further and support one another. Thanks to Lake Health and Wellbeing for sharing your experience with the MHM Education Guide! #PeriodFriendlyWorld #MenstruationMatters #periodeducationforall
“Now I feel better and relaxed.” We are absolutely thrilled by the impact of our menstrual health education project! 💖 We just love that both boys and girls have shown incredible enthusiasm and curiosity. Their eagerness to learn about this important topic is wonderful to see. We are also deeply grateful to WASH United, the schools in St Kitts and Nevis, the Department of Gender Affairs - Nevis and the Advancement of Children Foundation for their invaluable support in making this project possible 🙏. And, of course, our heartfelt thanks to our wonderful menstrual health educators who have created a welcoming and safe environment for these important discussions 🌸 .
