📢 We’re excited to announce our new partnership with Horizon Educational, a social enterprise dedicated to transforming how students learn about #hydrogen technologies! They do this through an innovative H2 Grand Prix competition where young women are empowered to design, engineer, construct and then race their very own 1:10 scale #hydrogencar – developing the next generation of engineers, designers, and leaders in hydrogen. In collaboration with universities and research centers partners of the H2 Grand Prix, #WiGH and Horizon Educational aim at supporting young #womeninSTEM and facilitating knowledge sharing from hydrogen experts in the WiGH network with students participating in the Grand Prix race. Carla Reihle, Alessia D'Addabbo, Maya Demnati, and Ben Giordano got a chance to test the very H2-powered car students use worldwide in the H2 Grand Prix! We look forward to a fruitful collaboration!

🏆 Deborah Jones, Research Director at the French National Scientific Research Council, has won the 'Women in Hydrogen Innovation' award at the European Hydrogen Week 2024! We are proud to announce Deborah as the winner of the inaugural edition of this new award from our network and the Clean Hydrogen Partnership. Next to the Research Director at the French National Scientific Research Council, she is also the Head of the Laboratory for aggregates, interfaces and materials for energy at the Institute for Molecular Chemistry and Materials at the University of Montpellier. "Innovation in #hydrogen technologies is central to further accelerate #decarbonisation,’ she said. ‘Recognising the contributions women are making to the field is important in encouraging greater female involvement. I am delighted to be distinguished in this way by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership." Her interests include the development and analysis of materials used in hydrogen technologies, particularly those used in proton and anion exchange membrane #fuelcells and electrolysers. She has authored or co-authored over 250 publications and has been awarded several patents for inventions related to materials used in fuel cells and #electrolysers. Among her many leadership roles, she is associate director of the 'Key Challenge' on clean hydrogen, which brings together all the academic research laboratories working on hydrogen topics in the Occitania region of France. The award aims to encourage the participation of women in the development, deployment and promotion of clean #hydrogentechnologies. “An award dedicated to recognising women in this industry is timely and crucial for fostering equality, inspiring future generations, and accelerating progress in the energy transition” said Valerie Bouillon-Delporte, Executive Director, Clean Hydrogen Partnership who presented the award together with Alessia D'Addabbo, Lead Partnerships at Women in Green Hydrogen. "By honouring women in hydrogen, the hydrogen industry can demonstrate that inclusion and innovation go hand in hand, paving the way for a more equitable and innovative energy future.” Valerie Bouillon-Delporte, thank you for initiating this cooperation! Thank you also to the WiGH Brussels Chapter, led by Anaïs Laporte and Katarina Muse for this fruitful collaboration.

𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝? 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧! 💪 We face a significant challenge for the future of #hydrogen: women remain underrepresented in the industry. To discuss how to close the gap for women entrepreneurs, we teamed up with Women in Green Hydrogen and FTI Consulting for a joint networking event at the European Hydrogen Week in Brussels. The discussion was very important to us as we at H2UB believe that diversity is a key driver of innovation. It was a pleasure to welcome an inspiring group of around 150 hydrogen enthusiasts to our booth to learn more about how industry and peers can support women entrepreneurs. The evening kicked off with Marina Scheider and Dr. Sopna Sury (RWE) opening the discussion. Our moderator Anaïs Laporte (Battolyser Systems) welcomed the #H2 experts Olga Bielkova (FTI Consulting), Dr. Teresa Wich-Konrad (WEW GmbH) and Joana Simão Costa (European Commission) on stage to share their experiences. Katarina Muse from Hydrogen Europe rounded off the discussion. 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬: 🗝️ 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭: it's important to have role models in early education to motivate girls to study science, but also to work on their relationship with money. Women are not often as familiar with the capital market as men, which puts them at a disadvantage when looking for funding. Most women rely on their own savings or borrow money from family to start a business. 🗝️ 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬: women need to support each other and bring their ideas from the bottom up. It is also important to have peers to support you in the early stages of your career. And: if you don't ask for it, you'll never get it, so ask for it! 🗝️ 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐮𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 are vital and a great start to increase reach to decision makers and visibility in general. Through events like this, we address barriers, spark discussions and look for ways to support female founders. We see this as an opportunity to unlock more diverse perspectives, which are critical for #innovation and growth. Thank you for joining the discussion!

WiGH at #COP29 🎉 Together with our partners UNIDO and Hydrogen Council we are happy to announce our engagement at #COP29 in Azerbaijan! At an energizing morning conversation over coffee ☕, we will talk about the role of women with a solid track record in #hydrogen and connect insights on topics such as education, skills development, cultural dynamics, and policy incentives to promote gender equity in hydrogen. An outcome will also be ideas 💡 on what new resources (studies/surveys/training activities/knowledge products) would be useful to foster inclusivity in the hydrogen sector. Key questions ❔ we will seek to answer: What key bottlenecks remain in achieving gender parity in hydrogen? What are the best practices on gender empowerment from around the world, and what can we learn from them? Can the involvement of women in decision-making and community meetings help to improve the social acceptance of hydrogen? You have access to the blue Zone at COP29 and want to participate at our event? Kindly reach out to hello@wigh.network for additional information.
