Canadian PM Trudeau says to ‘focus on what matters,’ thanks essential workers in Christmas message

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau delivered his annual Christmas message on Wednesday (December 25). “It’s a moment to put our phones down, to put our politics aside – even when that one cousin makes it really hard – and to focus on what matters,” Trudeau said. The Canadian Prime Minister also thanked first responders and essential workers on the job during the holiday. Trudeau, whose party looks set to lose power early next year, has been under increasing pressure from his own legislators to step down and let someone else take over. Last week, Trudeau suffered two major blows - then finance minister Chrystia Freeland quit amid a policy dispute over spending and all the opposition parties then said they would unite to bring down the minority Liberal government. Trudeau though shows no intention of leaving soon. The Globe and Mail, citing a Liberal source, said he would spend Christmas with family before taking a skiing vacation in the Pacific province of British Columbia.
