𝗚𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗴 𝗮𝘁 IBTM Events : 𝗔 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 Gothenburg’s booth is a masterclass in sustainability. Using materials from its 2019 booth—designed, sourced, and stored locally📍—it showcased the power of a circular economy. Over the years, these elements were reused for other projects, thanks to a local social mission company. Key highlights : - Local impact : Staff, photos and materials sourced locally. - Collaborative design : a joint effort between the city and local providers. - Knowledge sharing : Katarina Thorstensson shared Gothenburg’s journey to becoming a global sustainability leader, offering actionable insights. Supported by strong political backing, Gothenburg’s approach proves sustainability and local economies can thrive together. With a vision for 2030 as a sustainable destination (they already reached the net zero), the city inspires a shift in how events are planned. How will you design, plan and source your next exhibition booth ? Let’s follow their lead : sustainable, impactful, local. It is POSSIBLE ! Do you have "subvention tension"? Let this post from #MEET4IMPACT's Genevieve Leclerc, CMP, CICE, guide you. Genevieve and Global Destination Sustainability Movement (GDS-Movement)'s CEO and chief changemaker, Guy Bigwood, FIEMA, recently presented on the topic at the recent ICCA Congress.
Designing impactful solutions for associations, the business events sector and destination management organizations.
During the recent #ICCACongress2024, Guy Bigwood, FIEMA and I presented a session on "Leveraging event subvention programmes to catalyse regenerative transformation in cities," sponsored by MANGUSTEEN. The discussion aimed to highlight the importance of utilizing subvention funds strategically to promote sustainable practices in events and drive societal impact. Thanks to the wonderful team at Snapsight, the following insights and best practices were captured through AI: 📊 Integrating Impact Goals into Event Evaluation Criteria To ensure accountability and drive genuine change, it's crucial to integrate specific impact goals and sustainability metrics into the event evaluation criteria of subvention programs. 🤝 Supporting Clients on the Journey Towards Sustainability Destinations must provide support mechanisms and capacity-building tools to help event organizers meet the sustainability criteria stipulated in subvention programs. 📈 Aligning Subvention Strategies with Broader City Goals Subvention strategies are most effective when they align with a city's broader sustainability and societal development goals, such as the SDGs. 📈 Integrating Evaluation Criteria for Societal Impact Effective subvention programmes should incorporate evaluation mechanisms that attribute points to events based on their contribution to societal and environmental goals, ensuring accountability and encouraging positive change. 🤝 Fostering Partnerships for Collective Impact Destinations should build partnerships and collaborate with local entities to support event organizers in their sustainability efforts, which can lead to more impactful outcomes for the community. 💡 Encouraging Behavioral Change in Event Attendees Subvention funds should be utilized not only to support event-level sustainability but also to encourage individual behavioral changes amongst attendees. 🌟 Showcasing Success Stories to Inspire Action Sharing successful case studies of events that have utilized subvention funds to drive sustainability and impact can inspire and guide other organizations in their pursuit of similar goals. 🤔 Rethinking Financial Versus Non-Financial Subvention Support There is an emerging perspective on subvention funds that goes beyond financial support, considering non-financial grants that can drive more actionable and specific sustainable changes. Stay tuned as we will be soon co-launching a research project on this topic! 💡 with Global Destination Sustainability Movement (GDS-Movement) Conferli - The conference matchmaking platform ICCA #MEET4IMPACT #TomorrowStartsToday #socialimpact #fundingforchange
