The worldwide nonprofit ecolabel for renewable energy - Together for a 100% renewable world
About us
EKOenergy is a global nonprofit ecolabel for energy (renewable electricity, renewable gas, heat and cold). In addition to being renewable, the energy sold with the EKOenergy label fulfils additional sustainability criteria and funds projects that combat energy poverty. Our label can be combined with all types of sourcing of renewable energy: on-site installations, green power contracts, PPAs, unbundled EACs and more. EKOenergy-labelled energy is currently available in 80+ countries, and counting. By using our internationally recognised logo, individuals and companies demonstrate their commitment to renewable energy and encourage others to do the same. This helps speed up the transition to a 100% renewable world. Users of EKOenergy-labelled energy can use the logo in their publications, on their buildings, and on products made with EKOenergy. The ecolabel is an initiative of environmental NGOs and hosted by the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation.

🇺🇦 ⚡ Earlier this year, we granted 50,000€ from our campaign budget to RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation to support their work to deploy renewable energy in Ukraine. They are using our grant to install a solar system at a hospital in Kharkiv. The inverters and electrical wiring are in place. The panels will be installed in the coming weeks. Russia has shelled civilian infrastructure in the Kharkiv region 3,982 times in 2024, targeting energy infrastructure in particular. 100,000s are without heating, and blackouts are frequent. Let's do all we can to #supportUkraine. If you want to support similar initiatives, don't hesitate to get in touch for more information.

We are composing our Annual Report 2024. It's nice to go through the many things we could do and achieve together with (and thanks to) so many of you. If you have more EKOenergy-related news for 2024, remember to share it with us in the coming days. - If you have yet to become an authorised EKOenergy seller, consider doing so. - If you aren't using EKOenergy yet, remember that switching to EKOenergy is a concrete way to make an immediate additional positive impact. - If you are already involved and would like to do more, for example, by contributing more to our Climate Fund, that's possible!

In 2023, we granted €313,170 from our Climate Fund to the NGO Renewable World and its partner organisations for the ‘Renewable Energy to Transform Fishing Livelihoods’ project on Takawiri Island, situated in Homabay County, Kenya, within Lake Victoria. We just received another progress report. The procurement and installation of the initial 20kWp three-phase solar PV system is complete. The system is currently being used for lighting and to power the water purification system and cold room. Over 50% of Homa Bay residents lack access to clean water and rely on untreated lake water for household use. On Takawiri Island, the RE4Ice project has tackled this by installing a solar-powered ultrafiltration (UF) water treatment plant. The system now delivers safe, clean water to the community at a subsidised cost of Ksh. 1 per litre, making it affordable for even the most vulnerable households. Currently, approximately 900 litres of treated water is sold daily to community members. The ice machine has also been delivered and installed. It's currently undergoing testing, with initial results indicating that the systems are performing well. Once fully operational, the produced ice will significantly improve fish storage capabilities, helping to reduce post-harvest losses - a core aim of the project.

As EKOenergy grows, so do our databases. Daily, we add renewable energy installations, mainly wind & solar farms, to our EKOdirect database. There are now more than 7,700 entries from more than 80 countries in EKOdirect. Our authorised sellers use EKOdirect to check which assets they can use to sell EKOenergy-labelled energy. Don't hesitate to contact us if you want to learn more.

The end of the year is a time of farewells and thank-you celebrations at our Secretariat. We already had farewells for two trainees, and today, the volunteering projects of Léa, Pauline, and Celia are ending. Thanks to all of you for your support and many pleasant moments together this past year. You helped us cope with many tasks and challenges. All the best with your following activities and adventures. Four new European Solidarity Corps volunteers and one new trainee will join the team in early January. We look forward to their arrival!

We are happy to announce the opening of a new call for Climate Fund projects (Annual open call - Small grants). For every MWh of EKOenergy, at least €0.10 is allocated to EKOenergy’s Climate Fund to support impactful renewable energy projects in low- and middle-income countries. All projects we fund are selected through a transparent process. This time, we can support 15 to 20 wind and solar energy projects of up to €60,000 each. We welcome experienced non-profit organisations to submit project proposals by February 14th, 2025. 👉 https://lnkd.in/d-xyiJFt
