Today is 🌎 👫 Human Rights Day! Human Rights Day is important to us because one of the most common sustainability risks in the food sector is related to human rights such as forced or child labour, and labour rights such as fair remuneration and working hours. Our long-term relationships with suppliers help us to understand the human rights risks and other sustainability issues in our supply chains better. This requires systematic, long-term work. How have implemented it in our work recently❓ ✔️In 2024, we conducted in-depth human rights impact assessments in Thailand as part of our human rights work, working with local and international human rights experts from KPMG. ✔️We have several contract manufacturing suppliers in Thailand, and we have identified that the majority of them employ migrant workers from the neighbouring countries of Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar. ✔️The purpose of this pilot was to conduct a human rights deep dive to assess actual and potential adverse impacts, but most importantly, to listen to and give a voice to those rarely heard - the migrant workers themselves. ✔️Before the actual assessment visits, we reached out to international organisations and had discussions with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) representatives in Thailand on topics faced by migrant workers. ✔️Both of our suppliers respect the principles of responsible recruitment, including the Employer Pays Principle. This enables migrant workers to start their employment without debt and additionally, there is more income available for living when documents need to be renewed over time by the employer. ✔️Building strong collaborative relations with our suppliers is essential. Increasing knowledge and building capacity on human rights for our suppliers is something we continue to build on also in the future with other partnering organisations. ✔️ The collaboration provides us with a solid framework to continue developing our work. 🎄✨ Kickstarting the Holiday season with Paulig's annual kid's Christmas party at Pop & Jazz conservatory in Helsinki past Saturday. We had a great day filled with laughter, joy, and festive fun as we celebrated with our employees' little ones. From crafts and temporary tattoos (such a hit by the way!) to a show with Santa's elves, the smiles on their faces were priceless. And the adults did not seem to mind the delicious Christmas porridge and ginger biscuits either! We believe in creating a supportive, family-friendly environment here at Paulig and this event is one of the many ways we bring our community together. Celebrating 30 years of flavour at Paulig Belgium! 🌮✨ Last month, our Roeselare site in Belgium hit a major milestone celebrating its 30th anniversary! We saw nothing but smiling faces, a wonderful reminder of the vibrant community we’ve built together. This October, our Sustainability team had the privilege to attend COP16 in Colombia, where connections with global leaders were made and insights shared on advancing sustainability.    COP16 Colombia Key takeaways from Cali Colombia by Paulig's own Salla Sulasuo and Marjaana Palomäki   🌱Engaging with partners and learning from local perspectives as well as seeing firsthand our Paulig Group regenerative agriculture coffee farms in the Cauca region. 🌱 Discussions among governments, conservationists, and businesses are still siloed, but there’s progress in bridging these gaps. We also gained valuable insights from unexpected conversations. 🌱 Energized by new tools and potential collaborations at the landscape level. 🌱 Despite alarming realities about nature's state, we're more committed than ever to driving food systems change with a pragmatic approach—scaling regenerative agriculture practices to ease pressures on nature.   It was an absolute pleasure to collaborate with passionate changemakers and contribute to the conversations shaping a greener future. We are thrilled to announce that we have started new 🍅 Tex Mex salsas production for the Santa Maria brand at our Saue factory, Estonia following a significant investment of 10 million EUR.    “The opening of the new tomato salsa and sauce production line is a strategic move to expand our growth and solidify our standing as a leader in the Tex Mex category throughout Europe. By bringing a part of the production in-house, we enhance our ability to innovate and further develop the category with the same high standard for quality and familiar taste”, says Rolf Ladau, CEO of Paulig.
