Today at UNESCO, in celebration of the International #EducationDay 2025, I was thrilled by the incredibly rich debate and diverse perspectives on how #ArtificialIntelligence can transform education while protecting human dignity and agency. We confronted urgent questions about #AI’s role in #education. How can it expand opportunities? How do we ensure it respects human rights and enhances, rather than diminishes, the human and social dimensions of learning? And how can education empower individuals to navigate this rapidly evolving landscape? The overall message was clear: 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲—𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲. It’s about the systems and values we embed in its design. As we embrace AI in education, we must ensure that ethical and inclusive human agency remain at the heart of every design and deployment. And we must question the principles guiding AI’s creation and reflect on how we can all be co-creators of this technology that affects all of us. In the words of two of this morning's speakers, Payal Arora and François Taddei, the two key words of the next century will be solidarity and co-creation. This resonates with UNESCO’s belief that we must retain human agency in the use of AI in education. AI design needs to be guided by our moral compass and commitment to human rights. At UNESCO, we are committed to translating today’s insights into action. First, we will develop a 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, in addition to the 𝗨𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗢 𝗔𝗜 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 for teachers and students. Second, we will support the 𝗨𝗡 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 and the related framework for Digital Transformation, through the independent Scientific Panel on AI. Third, we will engage the global research community through a series of 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱-𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 that explore the futures of learning in the age of AI beyond 2030. We will continue the dialogue and build on today’s momentum. Let’s reconnect for 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝟭𝟵 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 and 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟭 𝘁𝗼 𝟱 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱. If there is one thing to take away from today’s discussions, it’s this: 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗴𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮—𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀, 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. Missed our event, click on the link in the comment below for more info 👇
