🚀 Exciting News! Our latest paper, "Experimental Evaluation of Haptic Shared Control for Multiple Electromagnetic Untethered Microrobots" authored by me, Franco Piñan Basualdo, Paolo Robuffo Giordano, Sarthak Misra and Claudio Pacchierotti, has just been accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering (T-ASE)! 🎉 The paper presents the design and the evaluation of a haptic shared control teleoperation framework, conceived to enable locomotion and safe navigation of multiple electromagnetic untethered microrobots. 🤖✨ The framework integrates a kinesthetic haptic interface with a custom electromagnetic system. This allows users to control a pair of microrobots, while being assisted in avoiding obstacles or navigating towards a goal through the provided haptic feedback. 🧲🎯 As validation of our method, we have also showcased its potential in clinical scenarios, highlighting how this technology could assist clinicians in delicate surgical procedures, such as aneurysm embolization. 🏥🔬 Curious to learn more? The Consortium met last week at the University of Twente hosted by the Surgical Robotics Lab of Prof. Sarthak Misra. The teams showed great advancements in microrobotics, human-robot interaction, and haptics, fostering their collaboration towards new exciting challenges. The social events were also rich, with a visit to the #Grolsch Brewery in #Enschede. We were blown away by the cutting-edge applications at the Robotics Centre University of Twente , particularly the advanced medical robots from Sarthak Misra team. RegoProject, our #HorizonEurope, aims to revolutionize robotics with AI-powered, microsized swarms. These microrobots will collaborate like ants, tackling complex tasks with unprecedented flexibility. From healthcare to industry, the potential applications are boundless. In September, I had a fantastic opportunity to present my work titled "Millimeter-scale Magnetic Carrier for On-demand Delivery of Magnetic and Non-magnetic Microparticle Suspensions" at BioRob-2024 (IEEE RAS EMBS 10th International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics). I gained a lot of inspiration and insight from this conference. More results are coming soon!
