Congratulations to PARC Research Associates Irma Elo, School of Arts and Sciences & Iliana Kohler, School of Arts and Sciences for being awarded a 2024 Penn Global Research and Engagement Grant for the project: "Determinants of Cognitive Aging among Older Individuals in Ghana" The overall aim of this project is the development of a nationally representative study on aging in Ghana. This goal requires expanding our network of Ghanian collaborators and actively engage them in research on aging. The PIs will build on existing institutional contacts in Ghana that include: 1). Current collaboration with the Navrongo Health Research Centre (NCHR) on a pilot data collection on cognitive aging in Ghana (funded by a NIA supplement and which provides the matching funds for this Global Engagement fund grant application); 2) Active collaboration with the Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS), University of Ghana. Elo has had a long-term collaboration with Dr. Ayaga Bawah who is the current director of RIPS.

"While the focus on respectful care has traditionally been on the woman alone, there is growing awareness that mistreatment of newborns can have immediate and lasting consequences. There is a growing movement to expand the focus to the woman and her baby together—the dyad—and to include respectful newborn care." This new blog post focuses on the importance of the newborn experience of care and offers an in-depth look at work from Ghana: https://lnkd.in/gR4NEADk Taggable authors include: Shanon McNab, Cupid Adumbireh, Ioana (Ana) Petricel, Sue Moffson, Dr. Neena Khadka, Colby Reed, MPH, Lara Vaz, and Reshma Naik, DrPH, MPH, among others. cc Navrongo Health Research Centre, Ghana Health Service, Jhpiego, USAID MOMENTUM, PRB #RespectfulMaternityCare #RespectfulNewbornCare #NewbornHealth #SmallVulnerableNewborns #MotherBabyDyad Photo credit: Kate Holt/Jhpiego
