Over the last month, 12 Hong Kong Veterinary Nurses attended a series of evening workshops at the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC) to develop skills as Vet Nurse Educators. Workshops covered educational theories and techniques for small-group, large-group and workplace teaching, allowing attendees to provide high-quality training to other nurses. The workshops were developed and led by Susanna Taylor, JCC Clinical Skills Manager, who has over 15 years of experience teaching in the veterinary sector and is a graduate of the Royal Veterinary College Veterinary Education post-graduate programme. We are thrilled to hear attendees are planning to put their skills into action, including at international events. We plan to run the workshops again in 2025, so please stay tuned!

Dr Joyce IP, Dairy Farm Officer at CityUHK Farm, presenting a talk on “The Upcycling of Food Co-Products as Part of Sustainable Dairy Farming in Hong Kong” at the FSPP Food Smart Conference 2024. The herd turns the indigestible and unpalatable by-products of post harvest processing and production into nutritious and tasty dairy products! This is also very sustainable using 230 tonnes of food waste per annum saving it from going into landfill, and dramatically reducing methane production compared with landfill. At 0.81 kg of CO2 eq per kg of milk the GHG emissions in producing CityU milk are approximately one third of the global average.
