🌟 Insights from the SA Modern Slavery Network Event! 🌟 On Friday, @Dr. Hannah Thinyane, our Director of Supply Chain Technology R&D, joined Emma Peters and Kate Lawson for a panel on Understanding and Moving Beyond Tier 1 at the SA's Modern Slavery Network’s annual event in Adelaide. This gathering united academia, civil society, and business leaders to discuss advancing supply chain transparency. Some of the key takeaways they discussed were around: 1. Collaborate with Tier One Suppliers 2. Leverage Technology: Tools like Diginex LUMEN and Diginex APPRISE help conduct human rights due diligence at scale in complex environments. 3. While this act was a game-changer when it launched, it’s time for an update to keep up with global standards. Here are the key recommendations every business should know: 1. Mandatory Due Diligence: Companies above a certain size will need to actively check their supply chains for modern slavery and take steps to fix any issues. 2. Import Restrictions: New laws could stop goods made by companies using forced labor from being brought into the UK, ensuring we only support ethical products. 3. Legislative Redefinitions: Updating definitions in the law will improve enforcement and accountability. These recommendations are a call to action for all of us. ❗ Yesterday, Diginex Global Sustainability Specialist - Emily Day - had the privilege of attending the annual Trust Conference hosted by Thomson Reuters in London. This gathering of interested business representatives provided a unique platform to discuss pressing ESG, environmental and human rights issues and explore strategies for positive change. Key takeaways from the panelists on "The future of responsible business: From ESG to mandatory human rights due diligence" panel included: ➡ Stewardship for the long-term: a single narrow view of financial materiality will not solve climate change and social equality that are systemic issues and require long-term thinking and double materiality approach. ➡ Increased Investor grade data: Need for assured climate disclosures that can be scrutinised by shareholders. Globally, we are now at a point in the climate change crisis where we need credible environmental action plans from businesses. Not lofty goals that don't reflect what a business can credibly do. ➡ In the backlash of anti-ESG and anti-DEI legislation in US, there is a real risk of impact hushing by investors on advocating on the good they are doing. Whilst US asset manager voting is dropping off, the introduction of regulations within Europe is increasing engagement around ESG and shareholder / asset management voting. However, there is a worry that the conversation and commitment to manage CSRD and CSDDD will prompt businesses to push back on the regulations.   📢 Call for action: Important that any individual with influence within their business should be saying internally that we will get through this, there will be mistakes but we will make our commitments to CSRD and CSDDD regulations. 

Today, as we recognize Anti-Slavery Day, we at Diginex reflect on the ILO's alarming report: over 50 million people are trapped in modern-day slavery. This issue dehumanizes individuals and denies them access to justice. With around 22 million in forced labor, every supply chain is affected. At Diginex, we are committed to empowering workers to seek help and advocating for a worker-centric approach in our projects.
