Darren Mullen MCIOB, Senior Assigned Certifier, delivered the session, focusing on the BC(A)R process from commencement to completion. Darren covered some of the most common items encountered during construction, offering valuable insights and practical knowledge. "It’s a privilege to contribute to the growth of the next generation of industry professionals, while simultaneously refreshing BC(A)R expertise for current engineers. Thank you to Axiseng for the opportunity to collaborate!" If you would like to learn more about the BC(A)R process, contact our team of Assigned Certifiers at +353 1524 2060 or info@ors.ie. ORS has proudly been an Engineers Ireland CPD Accredited Employer since 2017, underscoring our commitment to continuous professional development as a cornerstone of our operations.

#TechnicalThursday Sustainability is at the core of what we do. We are currently designing the greywater recovery system on various projects accross our portfolio. Here is a little overview for our Technical Thursday series. Greywater accounts for a high percentage of wastewater in a typical building. By capturing this waste, treating it and recirculating it to various applications that require water the need for continuous mains water is reduced dramatically. The traditional solution for a buildings wastewater removal is to use a sewerage type system that discharges mixed wastewater (both blackwater and greywater). This traditional approach restricts the potential for reusing any of the greywater. To enable the use of alternative water sources in the building, a dual plumbing system must be designed, with one system for blackwater and another for greywater. Greywater can be defined as wastewater from showers, baths and sinks. This water that has been used for washing hands, showering or bathing is captured and collected. Once the water has been filtered it is fed back into the property for use in non-potable purposes such as flushing toilets. This system has many advantages: 🌊 Water Conservation: Greywater recovery significantly reduces the overall water consumption of the building by reusing wastewater from sinks, showers, and baths that would traditionally by removed from the building and reusing it for toilet flushing and landscape irrigation. 💰 Cost Savings: Reducing the need for freshwater and reduces utility bills, particularly in buildings with high water usage. Over time, the system can pay for itself through reduced water costs. ♻ Environmental Impact: Greywater reuse reduces the properties environmental footprint by decreasing the demand for freshwater and lowering wastewater discharge. 📜 Compliance with Green Certifications: Many green building certifications, such as LEED, offer points for greywater systems. These certifications can enhance the building's marketability and branding. 💪 Resilience: Properties equipped with a grey water system can become more resilient during droughts or water restrictions, maintaining operations with reduced dependence on external water supplies. Do you know if your bulding uses this beneficial system? #greywater #sustainability #MEPdesign #explanation Danny Jones
