Last week, Cancer Research @UCC hosted the inaugural Brain Tumour Research Regional Networking Event which brought together patient advocates, senior researchers and clinicians from the university and hospital settings to share knowledge and explore potential collaborations for future brain tumour research. This collaborative event was organised by Professor Jack Gleeson of Cancer Research @UCC in collaboration with Dr Lily Keane (APC Microbiome Ireland), and Mr. Wail Abdu Mohammed (Cork University Hospitals Group), with funding from the Irish Cancer Society. The event highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing the complexities of brain tumour research. As Professor Gleeson states: "We need everyone working together to tackle the challenges posed by brain tumours. This event was a great opportunity to bring a diverse group of experts together in the same room to develop impactful research that will ultimately benefit our patients." A heartfelt thank you to our speakers and everyone who participated in making this event a success. We’re excited about the potential collaborations that will arise from this shared commitment to improving outcomes for brain tumour patients. 📣 FUTURE HORIZONS IN NEURO-ONCOLOGY Great evening hearing about on-going work and the possibilities for developing and expanding the clinical-academic interface in neuro-oncology as part of the Brain Tumour Research Regional Network Event hosted by Cancer Research @UCC The discussions spanned multiple #UCCFutures areas including but not limited to Medicines and Ageing and Brain Science. The event highlighted the potential to develop a true translational CTR pipeline in an area in which there is a critical mass of expertise in the region. Working to develop intra- and inter-institutional collaboration with the right supports and space will be key in developing this opportunity and its enormous potential for impact. Well done to Jack Gleason, Lily Keane and Wail Abdu Mohammed on a great initative.
