We're at the Annual Sir George Quigley Memorial Lecture in Armagh today, learning about progress in trade and tourism on the island of Ireland. Later we'll hear from the all island organisations set up under the Belfast Good Friday Agreement, 25 years on. It's exciting to be with other organisations like InterTradeIreland Safefood Tourism Ireland who share our vision of collaboration to create change, and to bring about positive outcomes for everyone who lives here. And Senator George Mitchell said hello.

It was a pleasure to present my PhD research at the annual Children’s Research Network conference today in UCD College of Social Sciences and Law and gain some great insights on a variety of ever present issues and challenges experienced by children in Ireland. My research focused on the topic of managing challenging behaviour in Ireland’s special care system and in particular, how law and policy is implemented in reality on the ground. Open access copy of my thesis available here: https://lnkd.in/eF92iwuv Big thank you to the Centre for Effective Services for supporting my attendance at today’s conference. 🏡 During this Homelessness Awareness Week #HAW24 in Northern Ireland, we want to highlight recommendations from our work with Campbell UK & Ireland, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and Housing First Dublin City Council. In May 2021, CES hosted an event ‘Using Evidence to Tackle Homelessness’ to bring together researchers and practitioners who specialise in providing and incorporating evidence into policy and interventions to tackle homelessness. Together we identified three recommendations for the successful implementation of evidence-informed policy and practice to address #homelessness: 🔸 The relationship between healthcare and homelessness requires further resourcing and research 🔸 An enabling culture and context is required for successful implementations of interventions 🔸 Trust and empathy of service providers is vital for effective support and retention of homeless people accessing services You can read more about our partnership event here https://lnkd.in/e36VXYGE
