And that's a rap for 2024....🎇🎇🎇 As 2024 comes to a close, we at the HSE Spark Innovation Programme are filled with pride and gratitude for a year brimming with creativity, collaboration, and progress. Here's a look back at a small number of the milestones that defined our journey this year: 🌟 Initiative Launches & Growth In 2024 Spark Impact was launched, while Spark Seed, Spark Fusion, Spark Ignite and Spark Connect initiatives continued to go from strength to strength. Designed to empower healthcare innovators at every stage of their journey, each of these initiatives has created new opportunities for innovation to flourish. 🤝 Collaborations & Networking: Building bridges across the healthcare innovation community, #HSESpark hosted dynamic networking meetings, including the Design Symposium during Public Sector Transformation week 2024 strengthened ties with key stakeholders. These events fostered invaluable connections, sparking ideas that will shape the future of healthcare. 💡 Welcoming New Fellows: This year, we warmly welcomed our new Innovation fellows into the Spark family, bringing fresh ideas and energy to the programme. At the same time, we bid farewell to our departing Innovation fellows Bobby Tang & Emily Wallace , who are moving on to exciting opportunities, taking the spirit of innovation to new horizons. 🚗Spark on the Road: The Spark team has been up and down the country visiting every Regional Health Area to meet with teams, run design thinking workshops, speak at conferences and grand rounds as well as hosting webinars to speak about how Spark can support healthcare innovators on the ground. 🏆 Celebrating & Supporting Innovators: We showcased incredible talent through our Innovators of the Month, supported aspiring healthcare innovators through bursaries, while also showcasing the work of our frontline healthcare innovators in our annual report, our newsletter and our events. Our "Design Thinking" online workshops for healthcare workers have been over subscribed each time building capacity for human centered design up and down the country. 🌍 Spark Summit 2024: A cornerstone event of the year, the #SparkSummit2024 brought together thought leaders, innovators, and change-makers, providing a platform to share ideas, successes, and visions for the future of healthcare. To everyone who has been part of this journey—our innovators, fellows, designers, collaborators, partners, and supporters—thank you. Your dedication drives our mission to make Ireland’s healthcare system more innovative, efficient, and patient-centered. As we look forward to 2025, we remain committed to nurturing innovation and collaboration within the healthcare community. Here’s to another year of progress and impact! #HSESpark #HealthcareInnovation #Collaboration #DesignThinking Jared Gormly Caitriona Heffernan Michelle Howard Dermot Burke Claire McElvanna Muthu Thangaramanujam Eve Stanley Alanna Allen Siobhan Power

🌟 A hopeful post about the value of design in healthcare.... Over the past few months, the area formerly known as CHO 8, which includes the Midlands and North East community health areas, has been leading an inspiring project in collaboration with HSE Spark Innovation Programme and Big Motive to redesign children’s services in the area. At the heart of this initiative is human-centered design—a process driven by deep engagement with parents and families, walking in their shoes to truly understand their needs. This approach has challenged old ways of thinking, fostered collaboration, and shifted mindsets across the board. What started as a journey through frustration, complexity, and uncertainty has transformed into one of hope, innovation, and meaningful change. Voices from every corner—over 370 parents, clinicians, senior leadership, administrative staff, project management, and digital teams—have been heard and valued, creating a shared vision for the future. While there is still much to do, we are excited about the brighter future we are building for children’s services—one that puts the needs of children and their families at its core. 🎉 Huge congratulations to everyone involved—your dedication, resilience, and creativity are nothing short of inspiring. Together, we’re making a lasting difference. The HSE Spark Innovation Programme attended yesterday's National Simulation Office Networking and Collaboration Event which brought together inspiring ideas and updates on the National Framework for Simulation. We heard about impactful simulation projects form this year and we are looking froward to whats to come in 2025.
A grand meeting before the Christmas 🎄holidays: We organised the National Simulation Networking and Collaboration Event yesterday at Hilton Dublin Kilmainham. The aim of the event was to provide updates from the NSO on the National Framework for Simulation following an initial consultation process in May 2024. We heard the developments in simulation projects from around the country that have been funded through the NATION call as well as other simulation activities with national impact and opportunities for collaboration. It was enlightening to see potential projects and ideas. By coming together and networking, idea sharing, and collaborating, we can develop further projects and activities and strengthen simulation nationally. Thank you to everyone for their continued support. Dara Byrne Steph Ryng Jared Gormly Health Service Executive

It was fantastic to be in the West of Ireland, meeting frontline healthcare staff, and driving innovation across the region. We were able to speak about the various SPARK initiatives, including SPARK Seed and SPARK Impact, and how they’re transforming patient care and healthcare delivery. As we look ahead to 2025, we’re incredibly excited about the innovations coming down the line, and we're grateful to have met with successful applicants and innovators from our initiatives in 2024.
