This year, our team has participated in the ARS (U.S.), CEO-ORL-HNS (European wide, held in Dublin), and IOS (Northern Ireland) conferences, engaging with leading clinicians from the U.S., Europe, Ireland, and the UK. The invaluable insights and feedback we received were not only encouraging but critical in validating the direction of our R&D program. These discussions reinforced the alignment between clinical needs and our product development, ensuring we’re focused on delivering innovations that truly make an impact in patient care. We’re excited to integrate these insights into the next phase of our work. At Tympany, we are driven by the opportunity to positively impact healthcare delivery and patient outcomes in a sustainable manner. We are really pleased to be progressing tangible work in this area through mechanisms such as our DTIF focused on sustainable design for manufacture and previous participation in the CIRCULÉIRE new venture development incubator. In addition to this we are delighted that Edel Browne has recently become a member of the Ibec Irish Medtech & Engineering Sustainability Working Group. Edel is looking forward to collaborating with other company representatives and IBEC lead Jenny Hughes on addressing industry challenges such as regulatory barriers, funding, and adoption of sustainable and circular medical technologies.

We were thrilled to kick off our €6.8 million award Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund project last week, welcoming our Consortium Partners Invermed, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and the National College of Art & Design teams to Galway. This 3 year project is led by Tympany Medical and aims to develop more sustainable solutions for the medical device sector, whilst building on the partners expertise in areas such as: clinical simulation, life cycle analyses, sustainable materials, and deep technical development. We also had presentations from Clare & Sarah in the Enterprise Ireland DTIF team to motivate and inform us as we kick-off this exciting collaboration! 👏

2024 began with an impressive month of funding for the #LSIAlumni. In January the #LSIAlumni raised over $115M, closed 1 M&A transaction, and announced 1 definitive agreement to be acquired. 💸 Here’s your LSI Alumni funding update for January: Acorai — Filip Peters → Raised over $4.5 million in an oversubscribed Seed round led by LSI Alumni investor, Solardis Health Ventures, with participation from KHP Ventures, CARMA FUND Management GmbH and other US investors. Axonics, Inc. — Raymond W. Cohen → Announced a definitive agreement to be acquired by Boston Scientific for $71 in cash per share (approximately $3.7B). Cognito Therapeutics, Inc. — Brent Vaughan → Raised a $35M Series B extension funding round. FluidAI — Youssef Helwa → Received $1.4M in funding through Ontario's Regional Development Program. Galvanize Therapeutics, Inc. — Jonathan Waldstreicher, MD → Announced its Electrophysiology Technology division has been acquired by CardioFocus. → Notable assets included in the acquisition are the CENTAURI System pulsed electric field generator, which is CE marked and commercially available in the EU and the UK, and the QuickShot™ catheter ablation system, currently in development. HAVENTURE — Addie H. → Announced that seven startups of its ecosystem have successfully partnered together to raise seed money, rounding €3.15 M, representing €450k for each startup, from a dedicated entity named SUROSH. → The startups (Extremis Robotics, Hemosquid, KAT Robotics, LinkX Robotics, SpinEM Robotics, Ostesys, Zentact Robotics) directly address unmet clinical needs in Medtech and robotics. inHEART — Todor Jeliaskov → Finished second place at the Webit Davos Grand Finals pitch competition, and received a $200k investment award. LEM Surgical AG — Yossi Bar, Christopher Prentice → Raised a CHF 22 million oversubscribed Series B funding round with participation from new investors in both the United States and Switzerland. Nanochon — Benjamin Holmes → Awarded $445,000 in grant funding through Virginia Catalyst Grant Round 15 to address major unmet healthcare needs and drive job creation and capital formation in Virginia. Newronika S.p.A. — Lothar Krinke → Secured an initial €2 million in blended finance from EIC Accelerator. Onera Health — Ruben de Francisco, Heidi Lee → Raised a $32M Series C funding round led by LSI Alumni Investor EQT Life Sciences and co-led by Gimv. Tympany Medical — Liz M. → Awarded €6.8 million in funding under the Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund (DTIF), from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment. XRHealth — Xavier Palomer Ripoll → Raised $6M in funding led by LSI Alumni investor Asabys Partners, with the participation of NOVA Prime Fund, and XRHealth’s current investors. This funding will accelerate Tympany Medical's development of sustainable, disruptive technologies for surgical endoscopy, and position the company as a leader in the #sustainability space for #medtech. We are looking forward to leading this project with our excellent DTIF partners, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), Invermed, and the National College of Art & Design. Announcing this key funding, Ministers Simon Coveney, Simon Harris and Dara Calleary all noted Tympany Medical's potential for leading on sustainable, technical advancement in #endoscopy. Also commenting on the announcement, Leo Clancy, CEO of Enterprise Ireland commented "Tympany Medical has achieved remarkable progress with its Solascope project. This innovation improves the functionality of endoscope procedures and also reduces the time traditionally associated with this procedure. The next stage of the project, which will be backed with more than €6 million in DTIF funding, will allow Tympany Medical, and its partners Invermed Teoranta, RCSI and NCAD, to commercially launch the Solascope as a groundbreaking, sustainable medical device.
