This recognition is an encouragement to continue pushing boundaries, advancing techniques, and applying international standards for more reliable data, fostering stronger synergy for a sustainable society. The ground is like a human body—no two sites or humans are the same, and both require reliable and correct parameters for any treatment. Advanced in-situ testing is the KEY to sustainable geotechnical engineering. This award reflects the encouragement and support I’ve received from my mentors, colleagues, gurus, associates, the Cengrs team, and most importantly, my family—my wife and children. It is a matter of pride for Cengrs Geotechnica Pvt. Ltd. that Mr. Ravi Sundaram, Director, presented a paper titled "𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘆" at the Indian Geotechnical Conference, Aurangabad. The paper, authored by Ravi Sundaram, Sorabh Gupta, and Sanjay Gupta, presents the analysis results of a piled raft foundation bearing on soft clay at 6 m depth. Based on a conventional design, the designer had proposed transferring the loads using 670 numbers of 1200 mm diameter and 40 m length piles. The authors proposed using a hybrid piled raft to economize the foundation system. Using the available borehole data, a design profile was developed. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘅𝗶𝘀 𝟯𝗗 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗶𝗹-𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝟯𝟱𝟬 𝟰𝟬-𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟰𝟳 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝟯𝟬 𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲-𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁. The raft thickness was optimized at 1.35 m to ensure that the stresses and deflection of the soils between the piles were fairly uniform. This resulted in considerable savings in the foundation cost.
