About us

Lend A Hand India, established in 2006 in Pune, Maharashtra, is a non-profit organization working at the intersection of education and livelihood to provide youth employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. Lend A Hand India focuses on integrating vocational education with mainstream education at secondary and higher secondary education levels (Grades 9-12 and students aged 14-18) to make secondary education more meaningful and interesting for their sustainable livelihoods. We set up labs with requisite tools and equipment, recruit and train qualified vocational trainers, arrange internship opportunities for the students, and get them assessed and certified, followed by placement support. Students are also provided internship opportunities with small or micro-enterprises to help them gain real-life exposure to the “World of Work.” We also bridge the gap between policy and execution by providing technical and project management support to the state governments to scale up vocational education. Our team members are co-located within the state education department, helping the state formulate the policy for vocational education and ensure effective execution. Out of 270+ employees, 50+ Lend A Hand India staff members support 25 states across India. Lend A Hand India's current scale in partnership with state governments is 12,000+ schools with 1.2 million+ students.

Economic Survey: Lend A Hand India model to operationalise Vocational Education We are excited to announce that Lend A Hand India has received significant recognition from the Government of India. Our work has been featured in the Economic Survey of India 2023-24, which is an important annual publication by the Ministry of Finance. Chapter 7.68 of the survey dedicates a paragraph to our model, showcasing not only our approach to Vocational Education but also how civil society can collaborate to implement government policies. Here’s an excerpt from the survey: "7.68: To implement vocational education across the learning ladder, the model of Lend A Hand India (LAHI), an NGO, is a good example. The LAHI model involves civil society’s collaboration with the government to introduce vocational education as a core curriculum component, establish labs, recruit and train vocational trainers, organize internships, and provide placement support. By offering comprehensive vocational education services and engaging with key stakeholders, civil society can actively participate in implementing the innovative features of NEP 2020." This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team. While we never sought such accolades, it is incredibly rewarding to see our efforts acknowledged on such a prestigious platform. We are hopeful about collaborating with many partners from civil society who can play an active role in implementing the novel features of NEP 2020. Find more information at https://lnkd.in/gpx5U2Kp. "Empowered by Skills 💪: Breaking Barriers 🚧, Discovering Myself 🔓" My Journey of Vocational Education: A Path of Self-Discovery 💡 As I reflect on my journey, I'm reminded of the transformative power of vocational education 📚. From being an intermediate student to becoming a passionate advocate for skill education, my path has been nothing short of remarkable . Growing up, I was like many other students - busy with studies and unsure about the future . However, when I opted for vocational education in electronic hardware. It opened me up to a world of possibilities 🌐. Not only did I learn about electronic tools, but I also gained valuable insights into professional life . In my locality, there was a prevalent notion that girls shouldn't pursue electronic work 🚫. But I was determined to challenge this stereotype . During my vocational training, I interned at local shops, learning from experienced professionals and gaining hands-on experience 🛠️. These experiences broadened my understanding of the industry and helped me develop valuable skills . I learned the art of questioning and realized that people's perceptions are often shaped by their life experiences and surroundings 🌎. I'm proud to say that I was one of the three girls in my school, out of 15+ girls, who chose electronic hardware as our vocational subject 🎉. It wasn't an easy choice, as it required courage to break away from traditional norms . I'm not saying that other trades are not worthy, but choosing electronic hardware demanded a willingness to challenge stereotypes and push beyond my comfort zone 🔓. The name "Lend A Hand India" is a true reflection of its initiatives 🙌. By providing vocational education and training, Lend A Hand India is literally lending a hand to youths like me, empowering us with the skills and confidence we need to succeed . Their support is a shining example of how organizations can make a positive impact on the lives of young people 🌟. My 80-hour internship with Lend A Hand India was a turning point in my journey 🔄. It provided me with hands-on experience, exposure to industry experts. My father's words still resonate with me: "Jo maar khata hai wahi maar pata hai" (The person who can bear the pain can break the barrier) 💪. These words inspired me to push beyond my limits and discover a new, better version of myself 🔓. Through my vocational journey, I've gained valuable insights into the importance of skill education 📚. I've realized that empowering youths with vocational skills can have a profound impact on their growth and development 🌱. As I look back on my journey, I'm filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment 🎓. I'm grateful for the opportunities I've had and the people who have supported me along the way 🙏. Thank you, Lend A Hand India, for being a catalyst in my journey and for empowering countless youths like me! 😌 Jenamani Amrit kumar | Ashish Malik #VocationalEducation #SkillDevelopment #BreakingStereotypes

  • Lend A Hand India recently conducted an engaging Training of Trainers (ToT) session for 22 teachers and HMs from Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation(MBMC) at the Karigar School of Applied Learning, Pune. The training aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 and National Curriculum Framework 2023, offering participants a holistic understanding of pre-vocational education. Teachers explored the What and Why of Pre-Vocational Education, its importance, and strategies for effective implementation in classrooms. This initiative would not have been possible without the vision and leadership of Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation including Sanjay Katkar IAS (Commissioner), Aniket Manorkar (Additional Commissioner), and Prasad Shingte (Deputy Commissioner), whose guidance has been pivotal in driving this effort forward. Their commitment to advancing education in the region is truly commendable. Key highlights of the session included annual planning discussions for integrating pre-vocational education with the broader curriculum, focused group presentations, simulating classroom activities, and emphasizing subject integration, timely execution, and hands-on experience. Participants also toured Karigar’s state-of-the-art labs, gaining inspiration to bring these concepts alive in their own schools. These trainers and HMs are the driving force behind Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation’s innovative “Employability@18” pilot program, engaging various NGOs to implement age-appropriate programs aimed at enhancing the employability of students in specific grade 6-8 interventions. The program, led by Mahesh Rasal , an alum of Lend A Hand India, and Lead of the Center of Excellence, Education in MBMC, aims to equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in the workforce by the time they turn 18. It always seems impossible until it’s done." – Nelson Mandela Excited to share that:) Yesterday I went to my school after many days, looked at the classroom bench-desk and students, old memories from my school flashed before my eyes. It is a matter of great pride for me to connect with the students after studying here. While I was nervous for my first student orientation session, I was also very excited to understand the true meaning and benefits of my vocational through my own experience. The main point of my session is as follows: 1. What is vocational education? 2. Introduction to Vocational Education 3. How is skill related to Vocational Education? 4. This opportunity after studying vocational subject After discussing these pointers, students asked me some exam related tips so we did some 'charcha on exams'. During this session I not only shared my experience and learning but also learned a lot from them. And at last I would like to say that: Lend A Hand India is more than an educational initiative; it's a beacon of hope, providing students with the opportunity to build a brighter future through the power of skills and knowledge." Thanking Jenamani Amrit kumar Sir, Sikha Kumari Devraj Kumar for their support. #Aproudskillmitra #Skilleducation #voiceofvocational #LendAHandIndia

  • Sakshi Bandal, a Class 12 student at Rajiv Gandhi Academy of E-Learning, Pune, is shattering stereotypes and inspiring young girls to aim higher. Pursuing Retail as her vocational subject, Sakshi used her summer vacation to gain real-world experience by interning at Grahak Peth, a departmental store in Pune, where she worked diligently for 6 hours daily over 15 days. During her internship, Sakshi transformed classroom knowledge into practical expertise, gaining hands-on experience in various aspects of retail management. She learned the intricacies of running a retail business while honing her technical and operational skills. But the learning didn’t stop there. Sakshi also developed invaluable soft skills such as confidence, communication, time management, and an entrepreneurial mindset. One of the key skills she learned was strategic space management in supermarkets—how to organize products by brand, category, quantity, and price, ensuring an appealing and effective display. This hands-on experience also introduced her to a wide array of new companies and startups in the market, broadening her understanding of emerging trends and innovations in the industry. Her proactive approach to customer profiling and market segmentation stood out as she observed and analyzed age-specific consumer behavior—teenage girls gravitating toward cosmetics, older individuals favoring groceries, and school students exploring stationery. Sakshi’s journey is an inspiring story of growth, determination, and the power of education. This story wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of Bajaj Finserv CSR, whose commitment to empowering students like Sakshi enables them to dream big, take bold steps, and turn their ambitions into reality. A heartfelt thank you to Bajaj Finserv for making such transformative journeys possible and for believing in the potential of every student. Breaking the Myths Around Vocational Education! Choosing Healthcare as my vocational subject in school came with a lot of challenges. Many students and parents perceived it as a waste of time, dismissing its importance and failing to understand the depth of the subject. Convincing them that vocational education is not a compromise but a valuable learning experience was an uphill battle. These misconceptions often overshadow the opportunities it provides, such as practical skills, industry certifications, and the confidence to excel in diverse career paths. Vocational education isn’t just a backup plan—it’s a powerful pathway to success. 💡 From providing industry-recognized certifications to building practical skills, communication, and confidence, vocational education empowers students with the tools they need for brighter futures and meaningful careers. As an intern with the marketing and communications team at Lend A Hand India, I had the privilege of raising awareness about this issue and busting some of the persisting myths around it . This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the guidance and encouragement of Shivani Sahota , whose insights and support helped me perform to the best of my abilities. I am also deeply thankful to Farhan Chaudhary ,Deepika Goyal , Jenamani Amrit kumar and all my incredible team members for their continuous motivation and collaboration. To everyone reading this: Let’s embrace challenges, seek the truth, and work towards breaking myths that hold us back. Every small step creates ripples of change. #VocationalEducation #SkillsForLife #EmpoweringFutures #BreakingMyths
