Insightful discussions at yesterday's workshop on Critical Minerals Recycling, hosted by the Ministry of Mines, Govt of India and International Energy Agency (IEA). LOHUM Corporation's Founder & CEO Rajat Verma was invited to deliver the opening address, representing India's critical minerals and recycling industries alongside Shri VL Kantha Rao and Tae-Yoon Kim. In his address, Rajat shared a compelling story: 'Can you steal the color white?' The quest for Titanium Dioxide, i.e. the compound behind the perfect white in everyday items like toothpaste once sparked major industrial espionage. This story illustrates the strategic value of critical minerals technology in our modern world of today. Drawing an interesting parallel, he highlighted how China began leading global research publications on Li-ion batteries in 2014, when their GDP per capita was less than India's today. The lesson being: Nations shouldn't wait for perfect conditions to invest in R&D, especially in critical minerals recycling. Later in the day, LOHUM also participated in a key panel discussion focusing on policy frameworks needed to strengthen India's critical minerals recycling industry. Collaborative efforts such as this, will eventually help us to drive India's critical minerals technology and narrative forward. It is abundantly clear, the time for India to step up its critical minerals recycling capabilities is now. What are your views on this critical subject, do let us know in the comments below. Second-Life #Batteries are scaling up #RenewableEnergy faster than ever. LOHUM is transforming India's energy landscape with sustainable Battery Energy Storage Systems (#BESS) made from EV batteries for homes, businesses, EV charging, and grid stability, passionately designed to augment and accelerate #Renewables #Infrastructure. Exploring global opportunities at the South Asia Clean Energy Forum (SACEF) organized by USAID, South Asia Regional Energy Partnership (SAREP), we discussed #BESS and their vital role in integrating #RenewableEnergy into #PowerGrids, exploring opportunities for clean energy transition in South Asia. The conference brought together distinguished government officials, industry leaders from major renewables companies, and representatives from industry associations. Speaking on the significance of 2nd-life batteries, #Recycling, and how #CircularEconomy principles across battery manufacturing and recycling help make BESS more sustainable & cost-effective in the long run, LOHUM's VP of Special Projects Pratyush Sinha expressed: “We’ve been doing a lot of analysis on energy prices. There’s a huge variation between minimum and maximum prices. Second-life batteries can help address this by shifting some of the capacity to other parts of the day. Battery refurbishment also has an important role to play in providing residual value and therefore improving the overall economics of BESS deployment. Cybersecurity is going to become really important as more of our grid becomes dependent on batteries. It’s important that the communication layer be developed in India or in friendly jurisdictions.” We extend our gratitude to Vivek Bhardwaj (SAREP), Ajay Talegaonkar (Member-E&C, Central Electricity Authority), Vivek Pandey (Senior General Manager, Grid India), Adarsh Nagarajan (Group Manager, National Renewable Energy Laboratory), Brajesh Kumar Gensol Electric Vehicles Pvt Ltd), Suhas Sutar (REplus), Saurabh Kumar (Vice President - India, GEAPP), along with representatives from USAID, SAREP, and US Department of State for advancing our shared goals in energy sustainability. #EnergyTransition #USIndia #BatteryRecycling #ClosedLoop #BESS #Batteries #SupplyChain #Sustainability #Renewable #CircularEconomy #Materials #CleanEnergy #EVCharging #ChargingStation
