88% of Telangana Colleges Operate Without NAAC Accreditation, Raising Quality Concerns! Quality education in Telangana is under scrutiny, as a staggering 88% of colleges in the state operate without a valid National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grade. Out of 2,083 colleges, only 260 (12%) have received NAAC accreditation. Furthermore, just 35% of the 31 universities in Telangana, including state, private, and deemed universities, are accredited. Osmania University’s NAAC accreditation expired this year, and several other universities, including Telangana University, Satavahana University, Palamuru University, and Telugu University, also lack valid NAAC grades. The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) has been without a NAAC grade since 2021. NAAC accreditation is a vital indicator of educational quality, influencing campus placements, funding opportunities, and institutional reputation. Institutions with a NAAC grade above B are seen as maintaining quality, which is crucial for securing corporate placements and enhancing student and parent perceptions. Institutions are evaluated on teaching, research, infrastructure, governance, and other factors, with grades ranging from A to D. These grades not only help institutions identify strengths and weaknesses but also assist in attracting grants and companies for campus recruitment drives. The absence of accreditation raises concerns about the standard of education in Telangana's higher education sector.
