About us

Mars Rover Manipal is an interdisciplinary student project that aims to explore robotics and its application in interplanetary expeditions. The project MRM annually participates in international and national competitions, The University Rover Challenge, European Rover Challenge, International Rover Challenge, International Rover Design Challenge and the International Mars Hackathon, organised by The Mars Society- The United States and South Asia since 2016. We have six subsystems focused on acquiring competency in their respective sectors for efficient working. The basic skeleton of the rover is provided by the Mechanical Design & Manufacturing subsystem, which includes the wheels, suspension, chassis, robotic manipulator, and the science module. The AI & Automation subsystem processes and interprets data from various sensors such as cameras, GPS, LiDARS, and IMUs. The Electronics & Controls subsystem is in charge of powering various segments of the rover, which work together to achieve the rover's desired performance in all tasks for effective control and communication. The Life science subsystem is in charge of conducting a comprehensive analysis of biological, geological, and chemical features, based on which conclusions about the presence of extinct or extant life can be reached. The Research subsystem maintains a portfolio of projects driven by fundamental research and new product innovation. We work not only on great ideas but also implement, deploy, experiment, contribute to and learn from the world around us. We have an outstanding rate of publishing papers and have presented our work at some of the world's top conferences like NAACL and IEEE access. The management & pr subsystem is responsible for ensuring proper management of the finances, public relations, and logistics of the project along with ensuring efficient communication within its members delegated into its technical subsystems.

Check out this incredible photograph of Rover 'Nakshatra', designed and developed by Team Mars Rover Manipal for the International Rover Challenge (IRC) 2025! The judges have selected this photo for the Social Media Bonus Task. The winner will be determined by the number of likes received on this post within 72 hours of its posting. So, if you like the design, please double-tap! The International Rover Challenge (IRC) by the Space Robotics Society is a competition that challenges university students to conceptualize, design, develop, and operate a next-generation space rover that can assist astronauts and perform specific missions in simulated Mars conditions. The objective of the competition is to provide students with a real-world interdisciplinary engineering experience that combines practical engineering skills with soft skills such as business planning and project management. *** #SpaceRoboticsSociety #SpaceRobotics #SPROS #IRC #RoverChallenge #InternationalRoverChallenge #IRC2025 #SprosWeek

  • We are excited to announce that our research paper, "LAqua: Laplacian Pyramids for Aquatic Segmentation," has been accepted as a Student Abstract at AAAI25! Congratulations to the authors, Laven Srivastava and Ishaan Gakhar, for their collaboration in bringing this project to life. This study explores lightweight Laplacian pyramid models for efficient aquatic segmentation, particularly for use on Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs) and Drones. The novel approach offers significant potential for real-time monitoring of aquatic environments, enabling quicker detection of hazards like oil spills, which can be critical for minimizing environmental damage and ensuring maritime safety. Looking forward to presenting this work at the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) 2025.

  • We are thrilled to share that our work, "AgriLLM: Harnessing Transformers for Farmer Queries” has been accepted at the undergraduate track of International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining,a highly reputed A* conference. Authors Krish Didwania (*), Pratinav Seth (*), Aditya Kasliwal , Amit Agarwal. In this study, we investigate the use of sequence-to-sequence transformer models to automate the resolution of agricultural queries, using a dataset of real-world farmer inquiries. A significant challenge identified is generating responses that are easily understood by farmers, taking into account linguistic and dialectal differences. To improve the quality and clarity of the generated responses, we employ Gemini model checkpoints to refine and rephrase outputs, ensuring the final results are both accurate and accessible. Accepted paper preprint: https://lnkd.in/gHzTr2wh As a part of the submission ,Krish Didwania has been selected to be a part of KDD Undergraduate Consortium 2024 and has been awarded with grants for registration and travel expenses for attending KDD 2024 at Barcelona,Spain.
