Mars Rover Manipal is an interdisciplinary student project that aims to explore robotics and its application in interplanetary expeditions.
The project MRM annually participates in international and national competitions, The University Rover Challenge, European Rover Challenge, International Rover Challenge, International Rover Design Challenge and the International Mars Hackathon, organised by The Mars Society- The United States and South Asia since 2016.
We have six subsystems focused on acquiring competency in their respective sectors for efficient working.
The basic skeleton of the rover is provided by the Mechanical Design & Manufacturing subsystem, which includes the wheels, suspension, chassis, robotic manipulator, and the science module.
The AI & Automation subsystem processes and interprets data from various sensors such as cameras, GPS, LiDARS, and IMUs.
The Electronics & Controls subsystem is in charge of powering various segments of the rover, which work together to achieve the rover's desired performance in all tasks for effective control and communication.
The Life science subsystem is in charge of conducting a comprehensive analysis of biological, geological, and chemical features, based on which conclusions about the presence of extinct or extant life can be reached.
The Research subsystem maintains a portfolio of projects driven by fundamental research and new product innovation. We work not only on great ideas but also implement, deploy, experiment, contribute to and learn from the world around us. We have an outstanding rate of publishing papers and have presented our work at some of the world's top conferences like NAACL and IEEE access.
The management & pr subsystem is responsible for ensuring proper management of the finances, public relations, and logistics of the project along with ensuring efficient communication within its members delegated into its technical subsystems.
