Happy birthday, everyone! On this day, in 1845, the Queen’s Colleges of Belfast, Cork and Galway were formally brought into existence. Did you know we actually have two birthdays? One on 30 December and an earlier one on 2 December, marking the day when we were granted the Charter to become a university in our own right. Queen’s University Belfast South Asia office was delighted to participate in the 19th FICCI Higher Education Summit, held on October 18-19, 2024, in New Delhi. The summit brought together leading figures from education, policy, and industry to explore the transformative theme: "Changing Paradigms of Higher Education in the Global Landscape." This event served as a hub for dialogue, networking, and collaboration, driving forward the frontiers of innovation in education. Ashwin Merchant, representing QUB South Asia, engaged with key stakeholders, including senior university officials, to explore collaborative opportunities and partnership initiatives to accelerate educational innovation. He also had insightful discussions with Ms. Neeta Prasad – Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, Government of India (GoI), Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar – Pro Chancellor, Symbiosis International (Deemed) University, and Mr. Salavadi Easwaran – Academic Dean, Biocon Academy, delving into emerging trends and the role of AI, digital tools, and technology in reshaping the future of learning. The summit was a testament to the power of collaboration in addressing global educational challenges. Our 2025 Summer School offers international students a three-week introduction to the rich tapestry of historical, cultural, political, environmental, and socio-economic factors that combine to make Northern Ireland a unique place. This experiential programme will situate Queen’s, Belfast, and the north of Ireland within the key conversations that shape our wider world. Not simply academic in scope, Queen’s 25 provides insights into the histories, locations, and future visions of Belfast by engaging with local people and visiting a range of political, historical and cultural sites.
