In collaboration with the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the Sovereign #OrderofMalta and Malteser International launched a major humanitarian initiative to support Christian communities and their neighbors in #Gaza city. With 140 tons of aid already distributed, nearly 40,000 people have benefited from food and essential supplies. Despite logistical and security challenges, the Order has ensured safe delivery and continues to bring hope to those in need. Future plans include regular shipments of vital goods and the establishment of a medical facility within the Holy Family compound to address urgent health needs. The Order of Malta runs medical, social and humanitarian projects in 120 countries. A sovereign subject of international law and a lay religious order of the Catholic Church, it has bilateral diplomatic relations with over 100 States, permanent observer status at the United Nations, the European Union and numerous international organisations. The Order of Malta is especially involved in helping victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters by providing medical assistance, caring for refugees, and distributing medicines and basic equipment for survival. The Order’s 13,500 members, 95,000 volunteers and over 52,000 employed personnel are dedicated to the care of all those who suffer, regardless of race or religion. The Order of Malta is neutral, impartial and apolitical. It is active in 120 countries, with 11 Grand Priories and Sub-Priories and 48 national Associations, as well as numerous hospitals, medical centres, day-care centres, first-aid corps and specialist foundations. On the occasion of his official visit to the United Nations in #Vienna for the 30th anniversary of the Sovereign #OrderofMalta’s status of Permanent Observer, Grand Chancellor Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo was received by the Minister for European and International Affairs of the Republic of #Austria, Alexander Schallenberg. This meeting highlighted the long-standing relationship between Austria and the Order, which dates back to the 12th century with the establishment of the Grand Priory of Austria. Today, the Order’s humanitarian presence in Austria is upheld by four relief organizations, including Malteser Hospitaldienst Austria, founded in 1956 to assist Hungarian refugees and now actively engaged in healthcare, disaster response, and aiding those affected by the war in #Ukraine. Youth, Commitment, Employment, Inclusion and Hospitality are the core values behind the G.I.O.I.A. Project, which was officially launched yesterday in Rome. This initiative, promoted by the Embassy of the #OrderofMalta to the #HolySee in collaboration with Cooperativa Diversa Arte and the Grand Priory of Rome, aims to foster the social inclusion and independence of young people with disabilities. The project centers on the creation of specialized accommodation and professional training opportunities within the tourism and hospitality sectors. Its cornerstone is the establishment of a ‘Holiday Home with social purpose’ in Rome. The Sovereign #OrderofMalta’s official donation of an ambulance to the Governorate of the Vatican City State took place today, Friday, 22 November 2024. Strongly supported by Grand Master Fra’ John Dunlap, the purchase of a fully equipped ambulance – which officially launches the Order’s activities for the #Jubilee2025 – will contribute to the services of the Governorate’s Directorate of Health and Hygiene in view of the Jubilee activities, during which some 30 million pilgrims are expected to arrive. “These initiatives further emphasize the strong synergy with the #HolySee and Pope Francis and, above all, reinforce our charism and mission to serve the poor, the needy and the faith”, said Fra’ John Dunlap. https://lnkd.in/dPgbE4RB

The Grand Chancellor of the Sovereign #OrderofMalta, Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, was received yesterday in Paris by Xing Qu, Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, the United Nations specialized agency for education, arts, sciences and culture. Discussed during the meeting was the Order’s intention to promote and develop its contribution to #UNESCO’s activities. There was particular reference to the protection of religious sites, especially in conflict situations, and the possibility of inscribing the Order of Malta’s historical archives in UNESCO’s Memory of the World (MoW) Register, an international initiative launched in 1992 to safeguard and preserve the documentary heritage with a major impact on world history. https://lnkd.in/dxkVVPyb

Today, the Order of Malta’s Secretary General for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Giampaolo Cantini, received at the Magistral Palace the Croatian State Secretary for Europe of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic Andreja Metelko-Zgombi. Their discussions underscored the close relations between the Sovereign #OrderofMalta and #Croatia, established in 1992, and explored ways to deepen them. Key topics included our mutual commitment to humanitarian efforts and the Order of Malta’s potential contribution to social inclusion projects in Croatia, furthering our shared mission to support vulnerable communities.

Sono intervenuti il Cardinale Claudio Gugerotti, prefetto del Dicastero per le Chiese Orientali, l'Ambasciatrice del Libano presso la Repubblica Italiana Mira Daher e, in collegamento da Beirut, Elie Al Hindy (PhD), esperto della Fondazione Adyan e professore associato di Relazioni Internazionali presso l'Università Americana degli Emirati Arabi Uniti. “Echoes of the Lebanon crisis. Conflict or coexistence?” dà vita a uno studio sui conflitti ai confini europei. La crisi in Libano, in particolare, viene analizzata come modello per comprendere situazioni simili, dove gruppi diversi convivono tra tensioni e possibilità di coesistenza armoniosa nel Medio Oriente. Il volume include un contributo dell’Ambasciatore Cantini, Segretario Generale per gli Affari Esteri dell’Ordine di Malta, che analizza gli scenari geopolitici in Medio Oriente, subito dopo la strage del 7 ottobre e prima dell’aggravarsi della crisi umanitaria a Gaza e dell’avvio delle operazioni militari israeliane in Libano.

The Grand Commander in #Poland and #Ukraine to visit the most significant projects of the #OrderofMalta to assist refugees and those displaced by the war, including the Lviv Children's Hospital and Halychyna Rehabilitation Centre. Fra' Emmanuel Rousseau, accompanied by a delegation of the Order of Malta, then went to the military Likhachev cemetery in Lviv to honour the war victims with a prayer. Oggi pomeriggio, presso la Villa Magistrale dell'#OrdinediMalta, si è tenuto un incontro a conclusione del percorso di formazione dedicato ai giovani neoassunti con l’ultimo concorso del Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale. Durante l'evento, organizzato dall'Ambasciata dell'Ordine presso la Repubblica Italiana, sono intervenuti il Segretario Generale per gli Affari Esteri dell'Ordine di Malta Giampaolo Cantini, l’Ambasciatore dell’Ordine in Italia Stefano Ronca e il Capo di Gabinetto del Grande Ospedaliere Ivo Graziani. Fulcro dei loro interventi, il ruolo internazionale dell'Ordine di Malta, con particolare attenzione alla sua missione di diplomazia umanitaria e protezione dei più vulnerabili. Hanno evidenziato le principali aree di intervento dell'Ordine, come il sostegno ai migranti, l'assistenza sanitaria e i progetti umanitari in aree di crisi, tra cui l'Ucraina e la Terra Santa.
