While celebrating #WorldToiletDay today, it is crucial to tilt focus to these pressing areas that still call for concern in both rural and urban communities. According to #UNWater, as at 2022, 🪧3.5 billion people still lack access to safely managed sanitation services. 🪧419 million people still practice open defecation. Unsafe sanitary conditions expose individuals to infectious diseases such as cholera, typhoid, Hepatitis and helminth-borne infections. 🪧🗞️Educating the public on preventative and mitigation measures and appropriate sanitation practices is a sure means to considerably reduce the rate of spread of WASH-related diseases. The Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology (CAWST), in collaboration with Research and Development without Borders (RDWB), Cameroon is doing a great job in empowering and engaging communities in their endeavours to create more peaceful disease-free environments. Green Conceptions Africa (GCA) took part in the technical skills share workshop facilitated by a team of experts from the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology (CAWST), Canada, led by Catherine Bourgault during which emphasis was placed on the above health pressures, within which preventive and mitigation technologies. 🌍 Driving impact in safe drinking water access with ILF for WASH 💦 We are proud to introduce Aqua Clara Kenya (ACK), which will be supported by our Impact-Linked Fund for #Water, #Sanitation, and #Hygiene (ILF for WASH) programme, which is developed in partnership with Roots of Impact. ACK is scaling its impact in safe drinking water access with Social Impact Incentives (SIINC). SIINC is an Impact-Linked Finance instrument that will reward ACK for staying true to its mission of reaching low-income customers, even as it expands its product range to attract a more diverse customer base. With goals to increase its reach in low-income areas, establish new #safedrinkingwater hubs in high-need regions, and ensure regular filter maintenance, ACK’s SIINC funding helps keep impact at the forefront. “Impact-Linked Finance is a great reminder of what your mission really is. On the final day of World Water Week, we're thrilled to present our Carbon Credits Knowledge Brief! A recent report estimates that water-related projects worldwide could generate over 1.6 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent in carbon credits annually. In the #WASH sector, carbon credits are gaining traction as a valuable revenue source for SMEs focused on water and sanitation, contributing to climate change mitigation. While #carbon #finance can significantly enhance the sustainability of these enterprises, the certification process is complex and often cost-prohibitive, limiting the viability of carbon credits primarily to larger organisations.
