The 𝗠𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘂𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗠𝗥𝗔) has been created by an Act of Parliament in September 2004. The Act was fully proclaimed in June 2006. The MRA is a body corporate, set up to manage an effective and efficient revenue-raising system. It is responsible for collecting all major tax revenues and enforcing tax laws in Mauritius. 𝗠𝗥𝗔 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: To be a world class Revenue Authority respected for its professionalism, efficiency, fairness, integrity and its contribution to our economic and social development. 𝗠𝗥𝗔 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: To continually reform and modernise Revenue Administration in order to manage and operate an effective and efficient Revenue organisation comprising of highly motivated and skilled staff. 𝗠𝗥𝗔 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀: 𝟭. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 MRA upholds the highest standards of integrity and honesty so as to gain the respect and confidence of taxpayers, stakeholders and the public at large. 𝟮. 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 MRA endeavours to provide a prompt, efficient, effective and quality service to taxpayers, stakeholders and the public at large in an effort to exceed their expectations. 𝟯. 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 MRA is committed to apply revenue laws impartially and objectively and treat everyone in an equitable manner. 𝟰. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 MRA efforts are geared towards the development of the Authority in a manner, which promotes a transparent and accountable administration.

The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) hosted the 44th Annual Technical Conference of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators (CATA) from October 21 to 25, 2024, at the InterContinental Mauritius Resort. This landmark event brought together over 100 international delegates, including Commissioner Generals, Tax Commissioners, Senior Tax Officials and Experts, to engage in discussions on the future of tax administrations. Sudhamo Lal, G.O.S.K, C.S.K, Director-General, MRA. This committee brought together a diverse group of external stakeholders, including Mr. Raffick Sufurhally, President of the Mauritius Taxpayers Association, Mr. Ameene Kodabux, Treasurer of the Mauritius Council of Social Service, Mr. Kevin Ramkaloan, Chief Executive Officer of Business Mauritius, and Mrs. Sheila Ujoodha, Chief Executive Officer of the Mauritius Institute of Directors (MloD), observers Ms. Violet N. Mulubwa from the Zambia Revenue Authority and Ms. Paulette Twhala from the Eswatini Revenue Service.     𝗧𝗮𝘅𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰: 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 ✅ • 89% of participants acknowledge MRA's efforts in identifying tax evasion • 81% commend Customs’ measures in the fight against drug trafficking • 297,000 taxpayers filed their returns by the deadline The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) unveiled the outcomes of the Taxpayer Satisfaction Survey (TSS) 2024 on October 29, 2024, during a draw ceremony at MRA's Head Office in Port Louis. Each year, the survey questions are refined to reflect shifting taxpayer expectations, and responses are carefully analysed to identify potential areas for improvement, ensuring that MRA continues to enhance its services and meet the evolving needs of taxpayers. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 The eighth edition of the TSS Draw 2024 was held in the presence of MRA Board Members - Mr. Dinay Reetoo, and Mr. Kritananda Naghee Reddy, Mr. M. Sudhamo Lal, Director-General of MRA, and members of the Management Team. 🥇𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲, 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝘀. 𝟮𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬, 𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗼𝗼 𝗡𝘂𝘇𝗵𝗮𝗵 𝗕𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗺. 🥈𝗟𝗶𝗺 𝗙𝗲𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗟𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗞𝘄𝗲𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝘀. 𝟭𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬, and 🥉𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗬𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝘀. 𝟭𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬. The draws took place under the supervision of representatives of the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA). The cash prizes serve as a token of appreciation for taxpayers' feedback and participation. MRA extends its gratitude to all participants. In his keynote address, Mr. M. Sudhamo Lal, highlighted the response to this year’s Survey, which saw the participation of 26,354 taxpayers. He pointed out that: - 97% of these taxpayers trust that their information is kept safe and secure by MRA; - 93% affirmed that financial allowances are disbursed within a reasonable timeframe and the tax system is administered fairly; - 81% of participants found Customs’ measures against drug trafficking to be effective; - 89% acknowledged MRA's efforts in identifying tax evasion; - 82% expressed that reporting fraud and illegal activities to MRA is a straightforward process; and - 94% reported an increase in their trust towards MRA over the past year. Mr. Lal reassured that “over 23,000 valuable comments gathered from taxpayers will be meticulously analysed in the coming days.” 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝘅 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗲-𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 By the deadline of October 15, 2024, 297,000 taxpayers submitted their income tax returns, as compared to 276,000 last year. By now, MRA has refunded some 81,000 taxpayers a total of Rs. 750 million. Emphasizing the benefits of the progressive tax system, the Director-General pointed out that 138,000 beneficiaries of the tax reform have collectively saved Rs. 5.5 billion. #MRA #efiling2024 #TSSDraw2024
