We continue to share love and hope with people affected by Tropical Storm Chido in the southern region of Malawi and some parts of the central region. According to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs, the storm affected over 10 thousand households impacting over 45 thousand people. 227 people were displaced and 3 lives were lost. This is also coming at a time when 4.2 million Malawians are experiencing acute food insecurity. World Vision is still on the ground responding to the affected households. World Vision is distributing relief items to people affected by storm Chido in Machinga and Chiradzulu districts and those affected by El Nino in Chikwawa district. We are also implementing a Social Cash transfer under Cash for Asset project in Phalombe and Chikwawa districts and a school feeding program in community-based childcare centres (CBCCs) in Phalombe district. All this is done to avert the current situation in the country. World Vision is also implementing resilience projects in Chikwawa and Phalombe districts where communities are trained to bounce back after experiencing some shocks like disasters. This is done through irrigation farming, afforestation and other interventions. At World Vision, we don’t just respond to emergencies; we stay for as long as it takes to help families rebuild and return to normal life. #WorldVisionMalawi |#humanitarianaid |#DisasterResponse |#ResilienceBuilding |#ResilienceAmidstChallenges World Food Programme USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance World Vision World Vision Southern Africa World Vision USA World Vision UK World Vision New Zealand

It’s been three months since Farook started school, and when asked what excites him the most about school, the two year old boy happily shares that it’s the porridge he gets during school. 🥣 The School Feeding Program is helping keep children like Farook in school, especially in areas like Phalombe, which were heavily impacted by the El Niño. World Vision Malawi through the #ENOUGH campaign is expected to roll out School #Feeding Program across all CBCCs in our Area Programs, with Phalombe and Mulanje being the first districts to benefit from it. By ensuring that children receive a nutritious meal, we’re not only #nourishing their bodies but also giving them the motivation to stay in #school and thrive. #WorldVisionMalawi #EnoughCampaign #SchoolFeeding #Phalombe #EducationForAll #NourishToLearn

Standing tall to a call for climate action, as demanded by the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG XIII) number 13, the Tilimbike Nursery Club in the area of Traditional Authority Njolomole in Ntcheu district is planting tree seedlings to replace trees on bare land due to wanton deforestation. The 41-member nursery club which is dominated by women (34) has so far planted over 4,000 tree seedlings. With support from World Vision, Tilimbike Nursery Club is geared to planting over 150 thousand trees in the next five years. World Vision is implementing a Restore Africa Project which aims to enhance livelihoods, food security, and resilience to climate change by restoring ecosystem services and improving the management of agricultural, pastoral, and forest areas. The Global EverGreening Alliance and its members have joined forces in the biggest small-scale farmer-driven land restoration project: Restore Africa. This program will accelerate and massively scale up the adoption of Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) and other complementary Evergreening practices in Malawi and other African countries. By restoring degraded landscapes and promoting sustainable agriculture, the project seeks to enhance the resilience of local communities while mitigating greenhouse gas emissions through enhanced carbon sequestration. #RestoreAfrica |#globalevergreenalliance |#landrestoration |#reforestation |#reforestationefforts CARE Malawi Catholic Relief Services World Vision World Vision Southern Africa World Vision USA World Vision Australia

It’s back to school and at Balabala Community Based Childcare Centre in Karonga district, children have started reporting in large numbers ready to gain new knowledge, skills and experiences. World Vision has invested heavily in early childhood education at the institution and other CBCCs across Malawi so that children have fun while acquiring the required knowledge. World Vision makes sure that learning is easy and enjoyable for children. “World Vision has really changed how we do ECD in this area. They first trained us caregivers in ECD curriculum. And they have now supplied our CBCCs with outdoor play materials which make it easier for us to play with the children,” says Leonard Mwakiyeghe, a caregiver at Balabala CBCC. World Vision continues to invest in children’s education as this is the backbone for every economy. World Vision believes that freedom starts with quality education. #BackToSchool2025 |#backtoschool |#education |#educationmatters World Vision Southern Africa World Vision World Vision Canada World Vision USA World Vision Taiwan 台灣世界展望會 World Vision Hong Kong UNICEF Save the Children International

In 2023, Malawi was hit by a devastating #cholera outbreak, and Nkhata Bay District was not spared. Families like Vinus Phiri’s had no choice but to draw water from shallow wells shared with animals, leading to sickness and increased absenteeism among school children. The drilling of #boreholes in Sanga AP by World Vision Malawi has changed everything. Families are now healthier and happier thanks to access to clean and safe water. Thulisile, a 9-year-old girl, is no longer late for school, and her family no longer worries about #waterborne diseases. For Vinus, this is more than just water—it’s a chance for her family to thrive. “Water is life,” she says with gratitude. #WaterIsLife #HopeInAction #WorldVisionMalawi #CleanWaterForAll #ChangingLives #WASH

Teachers at Dedza and Chifundu Primary Schools are empowering students with sign language skills through the Able to Thrive project by World Vision Malawi and #MANAD. By creating Sign Language Clubs at their schools, these educators are helping learners with hearing impairments communicate, ensuring all students receive the quality education they deserve. In addition to Dedza, the Able to Thrive project is also being implemented in Dowa District, where 25 teachers have been trained. Across the five districts where the project is active, 112 teachers have received sign language training. #InclusionMatters #SignLanguageEducation #AbleToThrive #Education4All

Vice President Dr Michael Usi attended the Lean Season Maize Distribution in Chikwawa District, where he called for fairness and transparency in food relief efforts. In this cycle, 1,424.95 metric tonnes have been distributed, representing 33% of the total target of 4,272 metric tonnes. With 5.7 million Malawians affected by El Niño, the World Food Programme, in partnership with World Vision Malawi, is committed to supporting those affected by El Niño including children. The Malawi government is committed to meeting the Global Nutrition Targets by 2025. This has been confirmed by the Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo, Deputy Minister of Health Halima Daudi and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo in separate meetings. The Ministers received letters of recommendation from World Vision International’s Director of Health and Nutrition, Dan Irvine, through World Vision Malawi’s Director of Advocacy and Communications, Charles Gwengwe. “Nations were meant to meet nutrition targets by 2025 and co-sponsoring a resolution at the World Health Assembly will enable countries to align with 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets. This will also strengthen the targets and accelerate progress based on the lessons learned over the past 12 years,” Says Charles Gwengwe. Charles emphasized on the need to extend these targets given the insufficient progress to achieve SDG2 and SDG3. The 78th World Health Assembly (WHA) will take place in Geneva, Switzerland from May 19, 2025 to May 27, 2025. #SDGs |#SDG2ZeroHunger |#SDG3goodhealthandwellbeing |#nutrition |#nutritionmatters World Vision Southern Africa World Vision UNICEF in Malawi World Food Programme World Health Organization
