Marco sheds light on the project's scale, which will produce 2 million tonnes of green ammonia annually before the end of the decade, enough to cut 5-6 million tonnes of CO2 emissions each year! He also discusses the significant benefits the project will have on the Namibian economy, including creating up to 15,000 new jobs during the construction phase, and 3,000 permanent jobs during its operation, with the target for 90% of these jobs to be filled by Namibians and 20% by youth. 🚢 Accelerating Sustainable Shipping 🚢 We are proud to join industry leaders across the maritime value chain calling for faster and bolder action to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission fuels for a sustainable shipping future. Our CEO, Marco Raffinetti said: “Maritime shipping connects the world, and the industry has a unique opportunity to lead global climate mitigation efforts by committing to green fuels. Namibia, with its abundant sun and wind resources, can play a vital role in producing these sustainable fuels to not only decarbonise the world's shipping corridors but also contribute to the creation of thousands of green jobs in Southern Africa. We stand firmly behind this call to action. Now is the time to shift from signaling intentions to making concrete commitments.” Launched at COP29 today, the joint statement has been organised by RMI, the UN High-Level Climate Champions, UCL Energy Institute, and the United Nations Foundation. 🌍 Yesterday, our Chief Operations Officer, Giuseppe Surace, took the stage at ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference to share insights at the panel discussion ‘Green Hydrogen: A Project Developer's Perspective’. Giuseppe and fellow industry experts Simon Flowers Brian Maxwell Alexander Tancock Daniel McArthur discussed green hydrogen’s position as a cornerstone of our low-carbon future and how developers manage factors such as costs, scaling complexities, political support and the financial landscape. They talked about developers requiring a combination of innovative strategies to cut production costs and active partnerships with governments to establish stable, supportive policy frameworks. 💡A key takeaway from the session: securing early and reliable off-takers through strategic alliances will be essential for green hydrogen projects to transition from ambitious plans into tangible, sustainable solutions. 🌍 Hyphen Takes Center Stage at the Global African Hydrogen Summit! 🌍 Last month, Hyphen proudly served as the exclusive Sustainability Partner at the inaugural Global African Hydrogen Summit (GAHS) 2024, hosted in Windhoek, Namibia. The summit's theme, "Ambition to Action," perfectly captured our journey as we continuously drive the development of Africa’s hydrogen industry. A few key highlights of our journey so far: ✅ We opened a new office in Lüderitz, marking a significant step in our project’s expansion. ✅ Our team has grown to 26 full-time employees, underscoring our commitment to scaling operations. ✅ We had the honor of welcoming a German government and EU delegation to visit our site at Tsau //Khaeb National Park and see firsthand the progress we've made. ✅ Erected 10 meteorological masts as part of our renewable energy assessment and are preparing for the official Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA). We were also thrilled to win the Communities Engagement of the Year Award, which our Head of ESG, Toni J E Beukes Cert.Dir. collected.
