  • To examine the possibility that “entrepreneurship” can offer solution to social and economic exclusion of PWDs in the labour market. We may then need to address a number of questions. 1. Can entrepreneurship be used to move people with disabilities into employment? 2. How often do PWDs start businesses and what types of businesses do they start? 3. What barriers do PWDs face when starting a business? Are these barriers different than those faced by other entrepreneurs? 4. Do different disabilities present different barriers to self-employment or business start-up (e.g., do people with physical disabilities face different barriers than those with mental disabilities)? 5. What are the main policy tools available to help those with disabilities become more entrepreneurial? 6. How can current national and sub-regional policies be improved? PWDs are one of the largest and most diverse group groups in the world living with some form of disability. However, they also face many challenges and obstacles in accessing education, employment, health care, and social service. As a result, they are often excluded from opportunities and benefits of economic development, and experience higher rates of poverty, unemployment, and social isolation. Inclusive entrepreneurship can offer PWDs a chance to overcome these barriers and participate in the economic and social life of their communities. By starting and running their own businesses, people with disabilities can achieve greater independence, autonomy, self-reliance, utilize their skills, talents, and potential and create income and wealth for themselves and families and contribute to the development and innovation of their sectors and markets. Entrepreneurs with disabilities face a unique set of challenge and barriers on the current labour market, which often limit their potentials and opportunities. These challenges and barriers can be categorized into four main areas: accessibility, discrimination, funding, and support. Technology and innovation are essential drivers of inclusive entrepreneurship for PWDs. They can help overcome the barriers that prevent people with disabilities from accessing the opportunities, resources, and networks that are vital for starting and growing a business. Technology and innovation can also create new solutions that address the specific needs and challenges of people with disabilities, both as entrepreneurs and as customers. Inclusive entrepreneurship is a powerful way to empower individuals with disabilities and create positive impacts for the society, the economy, and the environment. By providing opportunities for people with disabilities to start and grow their own businesses, inclusive entrepreneurship can: Enhance social inclusion and well-being; boost economic growth and innovation; promote environmental sustainability. #ACIEDafrica #Inclusion #Inclusiveentrepreneurship #JONAPWD #Developmentdashboard #DRAC #Sightsavers #DWAI #NCPWD #iredefoundation

  • "Enhancing the knowledge and capacity of key stakeholders to promote regular migration pathway, reduce irregular migration, and improve reintegration outcomes for returnees contributing to better migration governance in Nigeria", was the main objective of a 3-Day GIZ partners workshop tagged "Safe Migration for All: Building Capacity and Promoting Awareness for Regular Migration Pathways in Nigeria" that took place from 5-7 November 2024 in Abuja FCT, Nigeria. The 3-day workshop organized for GIZ partners/focal points in Nigeria on "SAFE, ORDERLY and REGULAR MIGRATION" by the Nigerian-German Centre for Migration and Development (ZME) in collaboration with the Civil Society Network on Migration and Development (CSOnetMADE), and Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment. The workshop employed a combination of interactive, informative sessions, case studies, group discussions, and expert presentations. Participants actively engaged in learning, sharing experiences, and formulating action plans to address migration challenges in Nigeria, and emphasis placed on practical knowledge, collaboration and advocacy skills. At the end of the workshop, participants were equipped with the tools, insights, and strategies needed to promote safe and regular migration with the aim to contribute to a safer and more equitable migration landscape, within Nigeria, ECOWAS region and on the global stage. Participants learnt about building collaborations and advocacy for Effective Migration Governance, as well as advocacy/influencing strategies to enhance migration governance and management in Nigeria through effective advocacy and policy reform, contributing to reduced reliance on irregular migration routes. ACIED Africa is thankful to GIZ Nigeria, the Nigerian-German Centre for Migration and Development, and Civil Society Network on Migration and Development (CSOnetMADE) for this opportunity, and particularly recognizing the achievements of our previous work on promotion of SAFE, ORDERLY and REGULAR Migration, Women's Voices in Migration Decisions, and Campaign Against Human Trafficking in various Nigerian communities. We are indeed committed to this partnership. #ACIEDAFRICA #DevelopmentDashboard #CSOnetMADE #NigerianYouth #GIZNigeria #ECOWASCommision #centreformigrationanddevelopmentZME #NCFRMI #FMLE #AFRIDAC #ECOWASprotocolsonfreemovementofpersons #PCI

  • ACIED AFRICA continues to engage with the Nigerian Youth and community people to build their consciousness on the ‘Risk of Irregular or Illegal Migration” and at the same time providing information on ‘Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration” from Nigeria. We believe it is crucial to raise awareness and provide guidance to young individuals who may be considering or are at risk of engaging in irregular migration. * We have been educating Nigerian youth about the risks and dangers associated with irregular migration, such as human trafficking, exploitation, and physical harm and legal consequences. We have been providing real-life examples and stories to illustrate the harsh realities faced by those who undertake such journeys. * We emphasis on the importance of seeking accurate and reliable information before making any decisions regarding migration. We encourage them to consult trusted sources such as government agencies, NGOs, and community leaders for guidance. It is essential to emphasize the importance of making informed decisions and exploring alternative opportunities within Nigeria. * In collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, we share about govt’s commitment to addressing the root causes of irregular migration and creating an enabling environment for youth development. Outlining various initiatives and support systems put in place by the government to encourage youth economic empowerment and discourage irregular migration. * We are utilizing every opportunity that we have to engage relevant govt. ministries and agencies to discuss approaches to address irregular migration from Nigeria. We advocate that Nigeria govt. should provide young individuals with the necessary tools and resources, promote a culture of legal and safe opportunities within Nigeria and ensuring youths are well-being and are contributing to the overall development of the nation. If we must emphasize here, Nigerian illegal immigration has grown to be a significant problem for the ECOWAS, the EU, and the world community at large. In today's international politics, it has evolved into a significant concern that drives key decisions. ACIED Africa’s two main recommendations to the Nigerian government: * Nigeria's policy response should prioritize creating sustainable economic opportunities at home, addressing root causes of migration. Investment in job training, education, and infrastructure can discourage citizens from seeking better prospects abroad, reducing illegal migration trends. * Nigeria should strengthen cooperation with European countries and international organizations to combat human trafficking networks. Joint efforts in intelligence sharing, law enforcement, and victim support can disrupt smuggling routes and provide a deterrent, making illegal migration less appealing while promoting legal pathways for migration. #IrregularMigration #SafeOrderlyRegularMigration #GIZ #EU #ECOWAS #Afridac #CSOnetMADE #ACIEDAFRICA #NigerianYouth

  • "Towards Humanitarian Country Teams (HCTs) Adoption of the United Nation Strategic Framework to Support Resilient Development in Africa" The profiles of many countries in Africa - Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) and Western and Central Africa (WCA) are characterized by multiple and compounded shocks and stressors. These severely affect the coping capacities of vulnerable people and leave existing national systems unable to cope, thus threatening hard-won development gains. In this context, resilient development, which is defined in the framework as the ability of individuals, communities and State to better prepare, manage, and recover from crises through capacity and system development, is a prerequisite for countries to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the targets of the African Union Agenda 2063. In order to effectively support countries, it is critical that tools, such as United Nations Development Assistance Frameworks (UNDAFs) and Humanitarian Response Plans (HRPs) and Regional Refugee Response Plans (RRPs), are adapted to respond to the high risk context in ESA and WCA regions. For that reason, Development Assistance Frameworks across the continent and beyond use “Sustainable Development and Resilience” as a core programme principle. Beyond UNDAF, it is also key that Humanitarian Country Teams (HCTs) are fully equipped to support countries to better link approaches that include: (i) risk-informed programming and preparedness for emergency response; (ii) disaster risk reduction; (iii) climate change adaptation; and (iv) conflict-prevention and peace-building, while seeking to integrate humanitarian and development programming where feasible and appropriate to do so. The purpose of this Framework is to support Humanitarian Country Teams (HCTs) to better adapt their programmes, tools, and staff capacity to be “fit for context”, in order to help countries and their people achieve the SDGs and targets of the Agenda 2063 through resilient development. The framework does not intend to impose standardisation of resilience initiatives or to serve as a ‘blueprint for action’. Instead, it intends to provide a conceptual framework, guidance and a compilation of tools and approaches to resilient development for Africa Humanitarian Country Teams (HCTs), based on experiences within and beyond Africa.
