It was our distinct pleasure to welcome Prof. Kingsley Moghalu as the Chairman of the Occasion at our 2024 Annual Directors Dinner and Awards Night that held at the Civic Centre a few days ago. In a remarkable coincidence, Prof. Moghalu was also conferred with the prestigious "CIoD Good Governance Award" in recognition of his exemplary service as a past Public Officer. This honor is a testament to his tireless efforts in promoting good corporate governance. The CIoD Nigeria proudly acknowledges and celebrates his outstanding contributions to this noble cause. Congratulations, Kingsley Moghalu!
I was honored, humbled and gratified to have received last night the prestigious The Chartered Institute Of Directors, Nigeria - CIoD (Formerly known as IoD Nigeria) ‘s Good Governance Award for 2024. The honor was conferred at the 2024 CIoD Directors Dinner & Awards Nite at the Civic Centre in Lagos. I was doubly honored to have served as Chairman of the event. According to Dele Alimi, CIoD Director-General & CEO, “ The CIoD Good Governance Award is awarded to past Public Officers who have distinguished themselves while serving in office. The Award is for former public office holders who have left office for not less than three years and have demonstrated exceptional leadership, financial prudence and accountability, respect for the rule of law, effective and efficient administration, transparency and responsiveness, and ran an equitable and inclusive administration”. In photos with Dele Alimi , CIoD Director-General, Alhaji Tijani Borodo, President & Chairman of the CIoD Council, CIoD 1st Vice-President Adetunji Oyebanji , and CIoD 2nd Vice-President Amina Oyagbola, and (last pic) with Mrs. Oyegbola, Alhaji Borodo, and Dr. Ije Jidenma , immediate past President of the CIoD. In my remarks as Chairman of the event I emphasized the importance of governance as a differentiator between civilized, progressive and prosperous societies and more primitive ones that lack effective governance and are instead governed by the laws of the jungle where only the “fittest” survive. I commended CIoD for the work it has done in promoting corporate governance in the private sector, on which we collaborated when I served as Deputy Governor Central Bank of Nigeria (2009-2014) as part our CBN reform of the financial sector, but highlighted the importance of the public sector adopting effective standards of corporate governance. Without this, Nigeria’s private sector will remain challenged by the absence of enabling environment for business. I spoke about the vision and mission of African School of Governance - ASG and why training a new generation of leaders for Africa with the mindset, knowledge and skills for effective governance is essential to change Africa’s trajectory. I told the audience that I was honored to have been chosen by the African leaders Paul Kagame President of Rwanda and Hailemariam Dessalegn, former Prime Minister of Ethiopia and both the Co-Founders of the African School of Governance, to lead the new pan-African university of public policy.

''We need to emphasize the importance of governance in the public sector, because without good governance and competent governance in the private sector, the private sector will not be able to create wealth in the manner in which it should. “It will not be able to create prosperity. It will not be able to create the wealth of nations, rather than the wealth of individuals.” Professor Kingsley Moghalu - President, African School of Governance and Chairman of Occasion at the 2024 Annual Directors Dinner and Awards Night. #corporategovernance #ciodnigeria #2024ADD #annualdirectorsdinn

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, it is our profound honour to report a very successful 2024 Annual Directors’ Dinner and Award Night of the Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria. Last night, we celebrated three remarkable attributes: the Resilience that has guided us through a challenging year, the Excellence of outstanding individuals and organizations in corporate governance, and the visionary Leadership that our Institute and its members continue to inspire across Nigeria and the African continent. This event marks the grand finale of CIoD Nigeria’s activities for 2024—a transition year for the Institute, filled with remarkable strides and milestones. The night was enjoyable, remarkable and filled with opportunities to connect, collaborate, and celebrate. #ciodnigeria #dinnerandawardsnight #itsawrap #directors #boardofdirectors
