How does our organization get ready for 2025? Recently, B Lab’s #Certification, #Community, and #Communications teams from across #Europe came together in Barcelona for our final in-person meeting of 2024. It was an invaluable opportunity to align on priorities, strengthen relationships, and prepare for the challenges ahead in 2025. 🌟 One highlight was diving deep into the #EvolvingStandards for #BCorp Certification - set to launch in 2025 - and mapping out the next steps to ensure the European B Corp community is equipped for this big transition. These gatherings reinforced the importance of connection, collaboration and alignment on objectives to realize our vision of a more inclusive, equitable and regenerative economic system in Europe! The #BCorp movement has shown that when businesses embrace transparency and accountability, they can lead the way in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges—balancing profit with the needs of people and the planet. But no company can build a regenerative economy alone. We need ambitious, well-designed policy frameworks that provide the structure and support necessary to align business actions with societal and environmental goals. The #EU’s recent plans to merge and revise key sustainability frameworks—the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (#CSDDD), Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (#CSRD), and the #Taxonomy Regulation—raises serious concerns. While reducing bureaucracy is important, we cannot compromise on the integrity of the sustainability framework that empowers companies, banks, and investors to make informed, impactful decisions. Revisions must strengthen—not dilute—the foundation for sustainable business practices. These frameworks are cornerstones of a just transition and critical to addressing the urgent social and environmental challenges of our time. We at B Lab remain committed to advocating for strong, ambitious policy that helps create a fairer, more regenerative economy. As we enter the critical second week of #COP29, world leaders have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to accelerate climate action. With the stakes higher than ever, bold decisions are needed to meet the commitments of the Paris Agreement and the outcomes of the Global Stocktake. We stand alongside Mission 2025—a global coalition of businesses, investors, and civil society leaders—calling on G20 Heads of State to take decisive steps: → Move the money: Agree on a high-ambition finance goal at COP29 that mobilizes the resources developing economies need for a fair and sustainable transition. → Publish the plans: Submit national climate plans by February that align with 1.5°C, are sector-specific, and backed by investment-positive policies to drive sustainable growth. COP29 represents a turning point for climate action. Decisions made here will set the stage for COP30 in Belém and determine how the world moves forward to address the climate crisis. The world is watching, and the moment for ambition is now. While global leaders convene to tackle the climate crisis at #COP29, recent developments in the EU raise concerns about the future of #sustainability legislation. Proposed rollbacks on key regulations like the #CSRD and #CSDDD threaten progress toward corporate accountability and sustainable business practices. Across the #BCorp movement, we’ve seen how transparency and accountability can transform businesses into forces for good, balancing the needs of people, planet, and profit. But businesses can’t do it alone. Robust policy frameworks are essential to align economic growth with the needs of society and the planet. Now is the time for courage.
