Come and listen to FOSS4G Developer Stories by Jody Garnett during his plenary keynote at #foss4g2024 on Friday 06/12, 15:00–15:45 (America/Belem) ! 🇧🇷
The keynote speakers for FOSS4G 2024 represent a remarkable array of experts contributing to geospatial science and open-source development. Here's a brief introduction to each speaker and their current professional roles: 1- Veronica Andreo is a key member of the GRASS development team, serving as chair of its Project Steering Committee since 2021. Currently a visiting scholar at North Carolina State University, she is also a researcher at CONICET in Argentina. 2- Céline Jacquin, a geographer and urban planner, has worked on urban development projects focusing on housing, mobility, and open government, with a gender-inclusive approach. Is currently the Senior Manager at the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team for Latin America. 3- Camile Söthe is a Data Scientist at Planet Labs, using satellite data and machine learning to map forest attributes. With a PhD in Remote Sensing from INPE and postdoctoral work at McMaster University, she has led projects on carbon storage and collaborated with Indigenous communities and WWF-Canada to support environmental conservation. 4- Gilberto Câmara is a leading expert in geospatial data and deforestation monitoring in the Amazon, recognized for promoting free data access. Affiliated with Brazil's National Institute for Space Research (INPE), where he was Director from 2006-2012, he has published 180 peer-reviewed papers and served as Director of the GEO Secretariat from 2018-2021. https://lnkd.in/d8qcB4rx 5- Luis Motta, with a deep passion for nature, started his career in GIS with a master's thesis on forest transportation optimization. His extensive experience spans roles in environmental organizations like Ibama, where he contributed to GIS development, including plugins for QGIS, and he is currently part of the Sisfogo team at Prevfogo, focusing on forest fire management. 6. Tom Kralidis is a lead architect at the Meteorological Service of Canada and a prominent figure in the FOSS4G and open standards communities. He is the creator of several geospatial Python projects, including pygeoapi and pycsw, and chairs various WMO and OGC working groups focused on open-source software, metadata standards, and geospatial interoperability. 7. Jody Garnett is an open-source spatial advocate, serving on the steering committees of GeoTools, GeoServer, and uDig. He volunteers with the Open Source Geospatial Foundation and contributes to the LocationTech working group for the Eclipse Foundation. Jody is passionate about using maps for decision support, viewing GIS as a significant challenge in data science that bridges the gap between big data and business intelligence.
