Already another year has passed! Looking back, we can celebrate many milestones and great moments. This is what 2024 brought us: A big technical achievement has been getting our process ready for sample production. We've coated over 9 kilometres of thin film on 9 different types of substrates. This included coating a large NMC cathode—an essential part for battery production—during a visit from Verkor. It proves what spatial ALD can bring to next-gen battery production and the energy transition. The biggest leap forward was enabled by the trust of investors Fairtree SIG Group and Innovation Quarter. With their joint investment of 3,5 million euros, we were able to grow and diversify the team. We are very happy to have welcomed Leon Arkesteijn, Sandra Wiegman, Ruan Stapelberg, Jonathan Guzmán and Nahid Torabi to the team. Their arrival has sped up important steps forward in hardware, software and commercial development. Introducing superspatial ALD to the world has been one of our priorities. We spoke at over 10 seminars about the commercially viable spatial ALD technology in our thin film equipment and joined 2 trade missions by Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development to Sweden and Finland. We hope to have inspired many inventors and manufacturers! Finally, we are very proud of our new brand identity. It may feel like 'just aesthetics', but we couldn't be happier to have our ambition, drives and promise aligned with how Kalpana Systems as a brand now looks and feels. In particular, we believe that our product animation made by Studio Analoog will support our commercial efforts. We can't wait to keep up this progress in 2025! Thanks to all who supported us this year. Enjoy the holidays with your friends and family! On behalve of our team: Diederick Spee Kees Boshuijer Sander ten Kate

Revolutionising thin film coating with Superspatial ALD
Over ons
What if you could accelerate the energy transition thanks to a new perspective on atomic layer deposition for thin films? Imagine batteries with next-level performance, unrivalled range and fast charging. Imagine affordable flexible solar panels and OLED screens for unrestricted designs. Imagine fully recyclable packaging, thanks to ultra-thin barrier coatings. We found a way to solve the challenges of applying ALD technology to thin films. We like to call it: Superspatial ALD. Inspired by the helical design found in nature, our technology provides an elegant solution to break from industry standards. Superspatial ALD enables the deposition of complex multi-layers in just one production step. The unique helical web transport in our thin film machine enables the roll-to-roll production of coating layers at high throughput. Superspatial ALD speeds up the ALD process by 1000 times, reducing cost by a factor of 10, using precious materials with the precision of a single atom. All with one machine, adaptable to fit different substrate types and widths, with a small footprint that seamlessly integrates into your production line. The wait is over. Superspatial ALD is finally here.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure to invite Verkor, NBSO Network and RAI Automotive Industry NL to our office in Delft and discuss the potential of using our superspatial ALD technology for next generation batteries. It is inspirational how Verkor is close to finishing construction of their gigafactory in the northern part of France, just a couple of years after the company was founded. Technology is developing fast, and to become competitive with battery cell manufacturers from outside of Europe we need to focus on innovation and development of more sustainable batteries. With #spatialALD, we can contribute by applying thin layers on battery cell components to modify and stabilize the interfaces, reducing the energy consumption and time needed in the critical, but costly formation step. We concluded with a visit to the lab for a demonstration of our roll-to-roll spatial ALD machine coating a large format NMC cathode. A unique showcase of how our roll-to-roll equipment can be implemented in a battery cell manufacturing line to develop better, safer and more sustainable batteries.
