‘I have been crazy about biology and living creatures all my life. Predatory mites happened on my path when I studied biology at the University of Amsterdam. They have fascinated me ever since and led me to my present position at Koppert’ Driven by a lifelong passion for predatory mites, Dr Tom Groot heads Koppert's R&D department for Macrobials, guiding a talented team committed to continuous innovation that keeps Koppert at the forefront of the industry. Partners with Nature!
Over ons

𝗕𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 - 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆! 🌈 These fuzzy flyers have a special superpower: they can see ultraviolet (UV) light, which is invisible to us humans. Here's why it's so cool: 𝘜𝘝 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯: Bumblebees have eyes equipped with UV receptors, allowing them to perceive patterns and colors that are completely invisible to us. 𝘍𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘯𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯: Ever wonder how bumblebees find their favorite flowers? UV vision plays a crucial role! Many flowers have special UV patterns, like landing strips that guide bumblebees to pollen. 𝘗𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯 𝘥𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦: Bumblebees use their UV vision to spot pollen on flowers. They can distinguish between different types of pollen based on its UV signature, helping them pick the best blooms to gather food from. Since their discovery a century ago, nematodes have become increasingly important in modern agriculture as an effective biological solution for controlling a wide range of pests. For Koppert, academic research plays a key role in expanding the use of this sustainable alternative, helping more growers adopt it. It is crucial to consider both scientific insights and the practical experiences of growers, while also understanding how different environmental conditions impact nematode performance. This is why the Instituto de Ciencias de la Vid y del Vino has partnered with Koppert on research projects to maximize the potential of beneficial nematodes in sustainable agriculture. Dr. Raquel Campos Herrera, who has passionately researched nematodes for over 20 years, explains why they are such a perfect model for study and why their role in sustainable farming is set to grow even further in the future.
