𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩: 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐋𝐎𝐖 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐁𝐋 𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 🗓️7 February 2025 ⏰13:00-15:00 🔗https://lnkd.in/eu_Bwk5C 👉🏻If the flow of a PBL-session is present, the session basically seems to run itself. However, as a tutor or as a student finding the “flow” of Problem Based Learning (PBL) can be quite challenging. The students should know what is expected of them and they should ideally have the motivation to “run the show”, allowing the tutor to focus on the content of the class and finetune group dynamics when necessary. In practice however, dialing in the machinery of the PBL-system and creating the right kind of group-chemistry can be considered a form of art. Every few weeks, tutors receive new courses with new students and new obstacles to finding our flow. 🃏To tackle this phenomenon Hüseyin Sakalli, lecturer at FASoS, has developed a new card game: Flow. This card game condenses all of the mechanics of a PBL-session, including the CCCS-principles, into a deck of a cards. By learning how to play this game during your tutorials you will be given a tool that will enable you to find your flow. If you want to know more about this game, please sign up to this workshop, where you will experience the card game yourself. 📌We're also pleased to share that Hüseyin has been nominated for the Wynand Wijnen Education Prize 2025! #education #teaching #learning #EDLAB

🎉Congratulations to Corinna Rott (SBE), Roberta Di Palma (SBE-MW/DEXLab) and Stef Bouman (MUMC) for winning an EDLAB Education Research Grant for their research proposal "𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 (𝗗𝗲)𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗩𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸"! 💡𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲? Public speaking is a key aspect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) at UM, but it often induces significant stress for students. 👉🏻𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗱𝗼? This project will validate the effectiveness of the (De)Stress VR Framework using wearable technology. It will assess VR's ability to induce stress in realistic public speaking scenarios and test its effectiveness in reducing stress through VR recovery scenarios. The project will also explore whether students apply the skills learned in VR to real-world situations. 📍𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁? By validating the (De)Stress VR Framework and applying it to future VR training scenarios, this project aligns with UM's strategic vision of cross-disciplinary solutions. It aims to establish best practices for technology-enhanced learning, helping students improve their academic performance and stress management, ultimately supporting sustainable career development. Good luck with your research project! #EDLAB #teaching #learning #EducationResearchGrants

Our proposal for an EDLAB Education Innovation Grant got funded! 🥳 🥳 Can’t wait to start working with Martijn Boussé , Philippe Dreesen, Marieke Musegaas, Ralf Peeters and Frank Thuijsman on this exciting project. 👨🎓 Linear Algebra is a core mathematics course in multiple bachelor programs. Students often find it challenging due to its abstract concepts and struggle to identify the connections between topics. 🎲 To address this challenge, we apply ludo didactics and propose a Linear Algebra card game, designed to enhance collaborative learning and conceptual understanding, in line with PBL principles. 🤝 The team is great and includes Ioannis Diamantis (SBE), Markus Niebisch (SBE), Tom van der Zanden (SBE), Mark Sanders (SBE), externals such as Yoni Geubbels (TU Delft), Evert Hoogendoorn (HKU), Willem-Jan Renger (HKU) and our students from linear algebra courses who will be directly involved in the development. Thanks to the EDLAB – Maastricht University Centre for Teaching & Learning for supporting our idea! ❤️

Glad to announce that I've been accepted into PREMIUM Excellence Programme Maastricht University at EDLAB – Maastricht University Centre for Teaching & Learning. This honours programme aims to enhance professional and personal development throughout our masters degree, by providing us with the opportunity to work with clients, as well as offering individualised coaching and a series of self/professional-development workshops. The first step I took as a part of this programme was attending our Mix & Match session. The purpose of this event was to discuss the projects offered by each client to make an official decision on who we would like to work with throughout the programme. I'm honoured to share that I will be working with LEADER Zuid-Limburg, where we plan on outlining best practices on how to foster a sense of community in rural areas in South Limburg. I'm looking forward to being a part of this exciting project, as well as working in an interdisciplinary team to provide a holistic aproach to address this topic. Thank you so much Fabienne Crombach (she/her) and Anna I. for your consideration and your dedication to making this a wonderful learning experience for all PREMIUM students!
