Then this clinic may be for you! During this clinic we will explore alternative assessment strategies tailored for project-based learning (PBL) classrooms, moving beyond the multiple-choice and open-ended response questions found on most “traditional” assessments. • 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽: 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘂𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 🗓️18 March 2025 ⏰13:30-16:30 🔗https://lnkd.in/e8GqTuy9 📢If you want to improve the coherence and quality of your curriculum (e.g. prior to an NVAO re-accreditation procedure), join this professional development workshop to review the core principles of constructive alignment, and chart possible applications for effective curriculum design. 🛠️The workshop will be particularly useful for those working with colleagues to develop effective learning trajectories or pathways across a curriculum, quality assurance officers or those coordinating or managing degree programmes at UM. We’ll look at how student competences can be developed throughout the academic journey into final qualifications, and how (programmatic) assessment can be developed to provide meaningful information for the learning process. We will also address elements that are often under review during an accreditation process and what quality measures should be in place. A few months ago, I started working on this research project along with Giuliana Brancaleone, as a continuation of our MARBLE project from two years ago! As research assistants, we search for DIYs and crafts used in medical faculties around the world, conduct interviews with makers in the medical (education) field, and explore the potential of making and co-creating materials as a teaching/learning pedagogy in medical education (for Maastricht University and beyond). These results will be gathered in a catalogue, aiming to facilitate the sharing of, and learning from, DIYs and alternative materials to practice clinical skills and/or study the human anatomy. In this process, we put a strong focus on sharing resources that are sustainable, representative of different bodies, and adaptable to various geographic and/or economic contexts, with the purpose of expanding access to (medical) skills education. Reach out if you have insights to share! More coming soon... ✨ Thank you Anna Harris, Emmaline Brouwer, Marijke Kruithof and EDLAB – Maastricht University Centre for Teaching & Learning for this very interesting opportunity!

🎉Congratulations to Anna Harris, Emmaline Brouwer and Marijke Kruithof for winning an EDLAB Education Research Grant for their research proposal "Making together, learning together: a DIY catalogue for health professions education"! 💡𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲? Many valuable learning materials for training clinical skills in undergraduate medicine are focused on digital innovation and high fidelity. While effective, these approaches come with significant costs and overlook more sustainable and locally relevant alternatives. 👉🏻𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗱𝗼? This research project will collect, curate, and facilitate the open sharing of low-cost learning materials for healthcare skills educators. It will also explore the learning potential of co-creating these materials. 📍𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁? The project aims to produce a catalogue of research results, in both analogue and digital forms, that can contribute to UM’s open educational resources, offering sustainable and accessible alternatives for skills education. Good luck with your research project! #EDLAB #teaching #learning #EducationResearchGrants

It sneaks its way into all realms of life: work, creativity, health, relationships… Nobody likes making mistakes. But it’s a completely different story if you want to do it all so perfectly, that you don’t allow yourself any mistakes. So where does perfectionism actually stem from? More than anything, perfectionism can go so far that your self-esteem reaches rock-bottom. In this online workshop, you’ll gain a greater awareness of perfectionistic habits and recognize where these help or hinder your students. By creating an awareness of students’ habits and motivations, you can pave the way to help your students to find a better balance in life. • 📚𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽: 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 🗓️6 March 2025 ⏰13:30-15:30 🔗https://lnkd.in/eVUwECvJ 🎨At its heart, creativity is simply the production of novel, appropriate ideas in any realm of human activity, from science to the arts, to education, to business, to everyday life. The ideas must be novel—different from what’s been done before—but they can’t be simply bizarre; they must be appropriate to the problem or opportunity presented. In this workshop, the creative process will be introduced through a few brief exercises. After that, we will look at what a person needs to be creative and what is so challenging about observing the world with a fresh, crisp perspective. Finally, we will try a number of creative thinking techniques which can easily be applied in the context of cooperative and constructive active learning (e.g. PBL style). 👉Check out all our upcoming workshops here: https://lnkd.in/e6zGJsek #education #teaching #learning #EDLAB
