🔋 Hydrovolt opens the world’s most #automated battery recycling line!♻️ Yesterday we celebrated a huge milestone when we opened our new production line at our facility for #discharging and #dismantling of #EV and industrial batteries. This new line is the first of its kind in the world for battery recycling on industrial scale. We were honored to host the Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre on this special occasion along with Jørn Eggum in Fellesforbundet and Christina Bu from Norsk elbilforening (Norwegian EV Association) taking the stage and sharing their reflections and insight to an industry of the future and a growing market for EV batteries. The new production line features various automatization principles and robotics, providing increased knowledge about the best way to #recycle large quantities of #industrial batteries. The #technology is now being commercially implemented on a large scale at the facility in Fredrikstad, with plans to use it at future facilities in Europe. 📌 – My grandfather was born here. He would have been proud, said the Prime Minister of Norway when opening our new production line recently. 🤩 Around 200 guests were gathered to celebrate this milestone together with us. 🚀 Moving into the “Age of Electricity”! The International Energy Agency (IEA)'s new report highlights that recycling of critical raw materials can deliver major benefits for #energysecurity, #diversification and #emissions reductions. The report shows that there is vast potential for expanding #recycling worldwide, if the right policy incentives are in place, as #EVs reach end-of-life and feedstock availability increases rapidly after 2030. The market for recycled #battery metals is already growing fast with an 11-fold increase in less than a decade, albeit from a relatively low base. Some highlights on #batteryrecycling in the report: ♻️ The growth in new mining supply for #criticalminerals could be brought down by between 25-40% by mid-century by scaling up #recycling. This aligns with our ambitions to scale recycling capacity across Europe to secure access to secondary #rawmaterials. ♻️ If delivering on announced national climate pledges, #recycling reduces new mine development needs by 40% for #copper and #cobalt, and by 25% for #lithium and #nickel by 2050. This aligns well with our own data and will significantly reduce the pressure on nature and land use. ♻️ On average, recycled critical minerals incur 80% less greenhouse gas #emissions than primary materials from mining and help prevent waste of end-use technologies ending up in landfill. This aligns well with our #LCA documenting a reduced carbon footprint of 75 percent by using #recycled materials compared to traditional mining. In Europe and the United States announced recycling capacity covers only 30% of feedstock by 2040. 👋 We are looking for a new Plant Manager! In 2022, we began operating Norway's first and one of Europe's largest #batteryrecycling plants in Fredrikstad. Today, the plant has 50+ employees and the capacity to handle 25,000 electric vehicles annually at the plant’s two modern industrial facilities in the Øra industrial park. Hydrovolt is a rapidly growing company in an emerging industry, and we are now looking for a plant manager with great drive, strong leadership qualities, and teamwork skills, as well as a willingness to drive change and further develop our operations. You must thrive in a startup and growth culture where organization, processes, and tasks are in continuous development. 💬 Highlight 2/3: Reusing our materials to showcase our #recycling solutions! ♻️ When opening our new production line, we wanted our guests to get familiar with our #batteryrecycling process, some of our #safety routines, and our #industrial culture. That’s why we invited into our production hall in Fredrikstad ✨ Inside the production hall, our employees had come together to reuse pallets used during operations to build our recycling story through the steps of #discharging, #dismantling, #crushing and #sorting. In the hall, you could also get a glimpse of some of the output fractions from our recycling process; #blackmass, #copper, #aluminum and #iron. One of our pallet installations represented our #LCA footprint showing a 75 percent reduction in impact by the use of #recycled raw materials compared to mining primary materials. Last, but not least, all our guests were able to take a closer look at our personal protective equipment that all our operators wear day-to-day at work to ensure their #safety and enhance safety during the recycling process. 📸 Take a look at the photos to learn more!
