What I Learned This Week on Spotlight Fridays 🎙️ This week, I had a powerful conversation with Rohan McCloskey from GoGenerosity about why businesses can’t afford to ignore social impact. A few key takeaways: ✅ Customers are 4x more likely to buy from a business with purpose. ✅ 70% of young consumers consider a brand’s values before making a purchase. ✅ 77% of consumers prefer brands that actively contribute to making the world a better place. ✅ People actively ask brands what causes they support. If your business isn’t making an impact, you’re missing an opportunity to connect. 💡 "If we don’t care about people and the planet, why are we here?" This was one of the standout moments of the chat. Rohan’s mum used to tell him: "Make sure you leave this planet better than you found it." That message stuck with him, and now, through GoGenerosity, he’s making that a reality - aiming for 𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 as they expand into Australia. 🔹 The problem won’t fix itself, but we can all do something. 1 in 5 children in NZ experience food insecurity. Businesses have the power to help, and Rohan shared three simple ways to make a real difference: 1️⃣ Connect with local charities: Organise volunteer days and build community partnerships. 2️⃣ Donate unused products: It’s often easier to throw things away than donate them. A great example is Thread Together, which redistributes unsold fashion to those in need. 3️⃣ Talk about your impact: Share real stories, not just stats. People want to see how you’re making a difference. If you missed the live chat, watch the replay [link in comments] What’s one way your business has made an impact? Let’s keep this conversation going.

Why Social Impact is a Business Imperative 🎙️ This week on Spotlight Fridays, we explored why businesses can’t afford to ignore social impact with Rohan McCloskey from GoGenerosity. The key takeaway? Consumers expect brands to do more than just sell, they want to see real impact. A few insights every business should consider: ✅ Customers are 4x more likely to buy from a business with purpose. 💡 "𝘐𝘧 𝘸𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘵, 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦?" This was one of the standout moments of the discussion. Businesses have the power to create meaningful change while strengthening customer relationships. 🔹 The challenge won’t fix itself, but businesses can lead the way. 1 in 5 children in NZ experience food insecurity. Here are three ways businesses can integrate social impact into their strategy: 1️⃣ Connect with local charities – Build partnerships that align with your values and create opportunities for employees to give back. 2️⃣ Donate unused products – Reduce waste and create meaningful contributions. Thread Together, for example, redistributes unsold fashion to those in need. 3️⃣ Communicate your impact – Share real stories, not just statistics. Transparency builds trust with customers and stakeholders. As GoGenerosity aims for 100 million acts of generosity by the end of 2025, businesses have an opportunity to be part of something bigger. If you missed the discussion, watch the replay here [link in comments]. How is your business integrating social impact into its strategy? Let’s start the conversation.

Receiving messages like this makes it all worth it. Mary's House Services's is a not-for-profit, grassroots organisation which supports women and their children escaping from domestic and family violence and abuse. Without government funding they rely on donations and fundraising. Within one month, Harris Farm Markets & their customers paid-forward $6,566 which meant these families could get access to to much needed groceries 👏 💚

  • School kicks off next week here in New Zealand and we have seen many headlines along the lines of this one. It's sobering. The study shows the more severe the food insecurity, the larger the education gap, with the students trailing their peers. It's the reason organisations like our charity partners like Kura Kai and Fair Food NZ are so so important. If you're a Shopify business that wants to amplify the good you do, get in touch to join Nothing Naughty, SkinnyFizz and Cleanery in paying-it-forward to these wonderful charities and others like them. They need all the generosity they can get.
