Wahoo! The B201 Redevelopment Project Team on Friday night was awarded both the Supreme Excellence and Best Team Award at the Auckland Property Council People Awards 2024!! It is such an incredible honour to be sharing this prestigious award with our fellow team members from the University of Auckland, BBD, Beca, Jasmax, Hawkins, Haumi. This is an exceptional accolade for a team who have consistently strived for the best project outcome with a relentless commitment to the success of the project through collaboration and true teamwork. The judges summed up the team’s achievement beautifully, “the diverse team faced immense hurdles yet delivered an extraordinary result. Their approach exemplified a highly team-focused consultative approach, resilience and cooperation, setting a new benchmark for the industry”. Pearson House - Timeless Elegance Restored Generus Living Group has transformed Pearson House, a Category 1 listed heritage building on Titoki St, Parnell, into a richly textured and inviting facility for the Foundation Village residents. The building has been seismically strengthened including the rebuild of the four chimneys, dissembling them and freighting the original bricks to Christchurch where they were slipped and reassembled, then freighted back to Auckland and lifted back into place. The project also included preserving and restoring heritage features, such as the exterior façade, colonnade, interior door-sets, frames and trims, and timber wall panelling. Precon were engaged at the conclusion of Detailed Design and provided comprehensive project management services, including procurement leadership and contract administration. The redevelopment of the Eden Park West Stand kicked off in August with Stage 1 of the removal of the lower west bowl. Stage 1 is the first stage in revitalising the West Stand to enable greater capacity for concerts, better ingress and egress for fans, and alternative hospitality options for sports events. The B201 Project Management Team – Precon Project Management and Property Services of The University of Auckland, have been named the winner in the category of ‘Project Management Team of the Year’ at this year’s RICS Awards 2024! The B201 Redevelopment project for the University of Auckland has transformed the 50-year-old Social Sciences Building, into a world-leading educational environment for the Faculties of Education and Social Work (FESW), Arts, and Creative Arts and Industries. The project was designed and constructed during and after the unprecedented Covid-19 period of lockdowns with multiple restrictions imposed by the Government, which presented unique challenges such as workforce shortages, supply chain disruptions, and cost uplift, causing immense strain on the programme and budget. Precon worked with the University of Auckland to provide comprehensive project management services from the conception to construction completion for the three interrelated projects, being Building 113, Building 114 and Building 201. All three projects were completed in time for FESW to relocate in accordance with the planned schedule. A huge testament to the Project Management team, who excelled in the navigation of all the unique challenges with a proactive and strategic approach, working collaboratively with the wider team to provide clarity and confidence in decision making. Preserving Heritage for Future Generations - The Kia Whakahou, Kia Whakaora Project. Tātaki Auckland Unlimited is undertaking vital maintenance on one of Auckland’s historic treasures, the heritage building at the intersection of Kitchener and Wellesley Streets, home to the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki since 1887. The Heritage Restoration Project: Kia Whakahou, Kia Whakaora (to restore, to heal), aims to safeguard this iconic structure for future generations. As a Category 1 historic site, the planned restoration works will respect and honour its significant cultural heritage. The roof's slate tiles have deteriorated over time, leading to loose tiles. This project replaces the slate roof and removes the many layers of paint from the façade, followed by repainting in a colour that closely resembles the original. To maintain its historical integrity, the new slate tiles are being sourced from the same Welsh quarry as the original tiles. The project also includes restoring heritage features previously removed, such as the copper ventilation towers on the Wellesley wing and reinstating the semi-circular roof with slate tiles. This initiative goes beyond maintenance; it is about preserving a key piece of New Zealand’s cultural heritage. The dedicated efforts of the team ensure that this cherished building remains a beloved landmark for future generations. Precon were engaged at the conclusion of Developed Design to lead the completion of design, inclusive of detailed investigations and material testing.
