Our CMRO Kirsty Weir attended yesterday’s Rethink HSEQ event on behaviour change, bringing together a strong collective of safety leaders all focused on the soft skills beyond technical knowledge that are needed for the next chapter of safety. Key themes: 📢 Communication and storytelling 👂🏻Simple language ❤️Connecting safety to people’s own motivations - their why 🎨Getting creative with comms - visual, engaging, dynamic 💪🏼 Empowering people to take ownership and accountability A pleasure to be included. Well done team Shirley Parsons!
Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending a Rethink HSEQ workshop on behaviour change organised by the team at Shirley Parsons and delivered by Denise Hampson founder of Desire Code. Across the board senior health, safety and environment leaders were grappling with the same challenges - how to shift safety from being system and process centric to human centric. There was a lot of conversation on the significance of soft skills - communication, leadership, stakeholder management and the ability to build freedom within frameworks. There were also conversations on how to realise ownership and accountability beyond the safety team with many great insights shared on enabling middle management by simplifying safety language and context. Thanks to Shona Paterson for the invite to be involved and to my fellow Team Tryers for your shared wisdom and experiences.

As an organisation, our core purpose is to support 100,000,000 workers into proactively safe work globally, and so today's partnership agreement with ITUS SPORTS AND SAFETY PRIVATE LIMITED marking the beginning of our work in India, is a prominent milestone along that journey. Since our inception in 2016 we've taken the business from a startup in New Zealand to an international business supporting companies in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, the US, a growing presence across the Middle Eastern market, Ireland and now India. We look forward to the road we are about to pave together Amit Ambedkar, Ankit Wagh and Aditya Nilangekar. And thank you to New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and Irfan Jaffer for the support.

Are we too reliant on embedded compliance practice as the benchmark for success in our supply chain duty of care? Navigating the complexities of a supply chain ecosystem as a safety leader brings challenges like: ⛰ the duality of an internal and external culture ⛰ the different driving priorities of small business economics with large enterprise systems and processes ⛰ the tension between business efficiency, financial ROI and beyond compliance levels of safety leadership ⛰ supply partner capacity to respond to differing requirements, systems and standards by supply chain owner According to our Safe365 annual report on Safety Culture Maturity 2024, 90% of industries sit at just tier three out of five in maturity for contractor management. Join us on Nov 14th as Sunit Atwal, QHSE Programmes Director for CBRE talks us through how she overcomes specific challenges around building strong cultures of safety in their contractor supply chain.
