🌍✨ Pioneering Green Finance in PNG: GFC participates at CEFI’s Financial Inclusion Forum 🌟🌱   On November 22, the Green Finance Centre (GFC) moderated a panel session at CEFI- Centre for Excellence in Financial Inclusion’s inaugural Financial Inclusion Policy Forum in Port Moresby. On November 13, the Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG), on behalf of the Green Finance Centre Papua New Guinea (GFC), signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the IFC - International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Securities Commission of Papua New Guinea (SCPNG) to promote green and inclusive finance through commercial banks and financial institutions in PNG. 💚✨ This partnership will focus on two powerful initiatives: 1️⃣ Revamping the Green Taxonomy: A financial classification system that will guide commercial banks and financial institutions to increase green lending to investors companies, investors and MSMEs in PNG. 🌱  2️⃣ Creating a Thematic Bond Framework Supporting green, social, and sustainability-linked bonds to fund climate-positive projects and attract global investment. 💰🌎 The ultimate goal? To help PNG achieve its bold climate targets: Derisk inclusive green lending 🌱 Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 🌍 Achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 💸 Secure over US$1 billion in investments for climate action in the next 10 years. 🌍 Strengthening Partnerships for Green Finance in PNG! This week, the Green Finance Centre Papua New Guinea (GFC) at the Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) and GGGI Papua New Guinea had the honor of hosting the Agence Française de Développement - AFD - dans l'océan Pacifique Regional Director Virginie Bleitrach to discuss the ongoing Green Pacific Financial Systems program. 📝During a fruitful meeting and dinner, we reaffirmed our shared commitment to sustainable finance in Papua New Guinea. AFD expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts toward making green financing a reality – from initial planning stages to tangible impacts on the ground. ✅🍀 🗝️Key priorities were discussed, relating to PNG, including: • Operationalizing the Green Refinancing Facility (GRF) • Exploring other innovative financial instruments to complement the GRF in order to accelerate green lending in PNG • recruitment of additional team support for GFC.
